If I have a 4wd truck with passenger tires, and I want to use chains...?

...should I put them on the front or the rear tires?

(Please don't just guess at the answer--I can make my own guesses.)

If I have to use chains on my 4x4 usually for emergency cases when these are taken out. I place them on the front wheels this way you have traction for steering.

I usually bungee strap the snot out of the chains to keep them tight as you don't want to throw a chain as you can say good by to your wheel well and probably some paint scratches and dents.

If it's got tires you can use chains. Do not put them on all wheels except on all sand. Even then be easy on the throttle. On all four you are prone to snapping an axle...

If you travel in snow covered mountains, put the chains on all tires, if you don't travel in too deep of snow, use no chains.
