On a scale one to 10, how would you rate Child Protective Services in your State? Please include State, if you have knowledge, your number and why that number with 10 words or less.

Thank you.

Update:

2 Texas

"I found, from information provided by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services, in Fiscal 2003, 30 foster children died in our state's care; in Fiscal 2004, 38 foster children died; and in Fiscal 2005, 48 foster children died.

"Data shows that while the number of foster children in our state's care increased 24 percent from 26,133 in Fiscal 2003 to 32,474 in Fiscal 2005, the number of deaths increased 60 percent.-Carolyn Keeton Strayhorn, Texas Compcontroller

Once they actually investigated a family on my street, when their home burned down and it was found that a two-year-old was left alone in the house with a lighter, which was the cause of the fire. So they deserve SOME credit.

Other than that, they have NEVER investigated anything I've reported. I've told them that someone had foster kids living in a crack house. Nothing. A kid in my sister's class came to school missing three teeth and with two black eyes. Nothing.

But they come take the illegal Vietnamese immigrants' kids. Oh, COME ON. They're taken care of better than anyone else in the whole town! How ridiculous is that? They couldn't even speak English with the attorney they were given. That just burns me up.

They need to do a much better job.

On a scale of 1 to 10 we cannot even claim 0 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good old TEXAS! Our child protective services (especially in and around the San Antonio area) rates up to a big NADA!!!!!! ZERO in English!!!!! Too many of our innocent children here have paid dearly with their lives!!!! Maybe our state representatives need to investigate further-and put the people to work that DO their jobs! Every innocent child has the God given right not to be abused!!!!!!

Reformation won't do plenty because of the fact they'll nevertheless no longer have adequate human beings to maintain on with all the sector situations as heavily as mandatory and nevertheless spend time on the shop on with by using. Sheer manpower is the actual scarcity. maximum people who get a level in Social artwork opt for beneficial sparkling workplace jobs, they do no longer opt for container artwork. And maximum container workers burn out in some years because of the flaws they are able to ascertain, or worse, become so used to it they do no longer react anymore. greater workers will additionally enable incompetant or under knowledgeable workers to be bumped off and retrained with out shorting the workers mandatory. bodies bodies bodies - no count how the regulations get shuffled, you nevertheless won't have adequate bodies until greater individuals are prepared to pass into the trenches. sign in AND help human beings!! it incredibly is annoying to do, yet look on the advantages you supplies a newborn whilst the artwork is complete ideal.

0 i live in north carolina, i dont particularly like cps because i dont liike the idea that they can just take your children away and tear families apart. i told my doctors that i had been smoking pot before i knew i was pregnant and they told me that they were going to drug test me and my baby and that if i or the baby came back positive that cps would take my baby, and in the county i live in they are less likely then other counties to put the children with other family members. this is ridiculious. they think that children are better off with total strangers then family members that are capable of having them. also i think this keeps pregnant mothers with addiction problems from seeking prenatal care, for fear that thier children will be taken away. the only time i called them was when i was working at a daycare and it was very obvious that this certain child was being sexually abused by his mothers boyfriend, and no other teachers would call. i called my aunt who used to work for cps before to make sure that the situation sounded like something to call about and she said definatly. so it turns out that someone from another daycare this child had stayed at prior to the one i worked at had called cps about the same problem, the worker that handled my complaint was the same worker that handled it the last time someone called and my aunt said he didnt do his job at all. this poor kid had the bad luck of getting the same worker the second time that cps was called about this and this worker said that this child just had a vivid imagination and couldnt tell fantasy from reality. this kid was talking about things like vibrators and what a erect adult penis looked like and he was 4, he was also molesting other children. cps in my county sucks, they will take your child for smoking some pot but your obviously allowed to sexually abuse your child with no problem.

I'm in California and have had to call them several times because of my job (I work with infants and monitor their development, and this all goes on in their home). I rate them a 6 in my state. I've had horrible homes where they did nothing and I was shocked. I've had a couple good workers though who took immediate action. It depends on who you get.

I live in Canada. I would rate our services with a 3. They are all about bringing in the money and that is not right.

I know more than 10 families that have beaten, abused (emotionally, sexually, & physical) and gotten there kids back pry 10 times, and still have their kids in the same atmosphere. I think it goes by county too.

I have a personnal story & I was involved with CPS. I am in California, 31 year old female with 5 boys...I was 5 1/2 months pregnant with my 5th boy in July, 2004. My fiancee was murdered...I had already had a addiction to meth (nothing nice) well when this happend I went full blown into a bad bad addiction!! I hated CPS with any & every feeling I had left in my body because when I went into labor at 4:00am I was using in the car on the way to the hospital! It wasnt CPS's fault, but I was blamming them cause thats just how I was...blamming everyone but myself! Anyhow, my son was born positive with meth as so was I. He was only 5 lbs & 4oz. FULL TERM!! I was given a alltanadum (spelled wrong ss) either give my 5 boys up or go into a 6 month rehab. I could kill my social worker when she told me this! I thought how could she?!?1 Doesnt she know what just happend 4 months ago? Meaning about my fiancee...and who the heck was she talking about taking my boys away!!! But you know what....Today I thank God she was the social worker that handled my case!! I got out of the rehab in 5 months & returned to my old "stomping grounds" knowing that "it" was just a phone call away. I made the decision to let my family know I was having those urges....urges of using after being 5 months sober. I called my social worker & told her. I made sure that everyone knew how I was feeling, cause I didnt trust myself. My social worker was in my life for almost 2 years...she gave her utmost support, called me just to say hello & not ask me anything...just to say hi!! She gave me & my boys the most awesome Christmas last year. My boys love her! And I myself thank her & my mother for my life today!! I would rate my California social worker a 10+

    Thanks,

    Sheron
