Wireless Internet Service? Houston Texas?

I saw an ad on TV for a cheap Wireless service, but didn't write down the 1-800 number. At our duplex in Houston, TX, we don't have a phone line, and need to get a Wireless Internet Service and Router. What company offers the cheapest service? Since we lost our phone service, if it comes included in a bundle, that would be good, but is not necessary. If Router is not included in the costs, what is the cheapest/best quality for the money? Thank you!

Update:

I have seen services for about $40 a month. The one on TV was less, but did not specify any cost of installation or equipment (I think it had "Star" or "Fire" in the name?). I understand routers by themselves are about $60. I know about the main companies like Roadrunner and SBC. But where to find other cheaper wireless internet services to choose from? Is there a website that lists them all?

Update 2:

I checked with Netstar that offers DSL for 26.95 or stable ISP for multiple users for 44.95 per month. I was told SBC offers restricted DSL/911 service, plus a "2wire" router that is more reliable than cable services. I still have not found the name of the other company in the TV ad. Any websites that list these? Thank you for your help!

Well, since you dont have a phone line, you can't get DSL. So, you'd have to either:

    A. Buy cable Internet with a router to connect.

    B. Search you area to see if there is a hot spot or another wireless signal you could use.

    C. If you have Time Warner, I'd just get the cable, phone and DSL bundle...but, I don't know your budget.

Some complexes make you use a certain cable company..so..you may not be able to get the bundle via time warner. I have SBC DSL. The 'modem' they give you acts as the router as well...so your laptop (assuming you have one) can pick up the signal from that. The code you must put in is on the bottom of the modem.

Who has the cable service for your area? Here in Tulsa, I have Cox Communications for wireless internet, cable and phone. And mine is about $20 cheaper than AT&T. But you have to buy a cable modem, a router, and a wireless adapter, if your computer does not sit close enough to the cable outlet. Either way, initially, it will be quite alot. Also, I have Linksys equipment, which I'm told is very good. At least, the service is good - when I've asked for help, they were very quick and thorough.

Good luck. I don't know if this helped or not, but I hope so!

I dont live in that area however if you want a high speed internet provider without having a telephone line then take a look at your local cable companies, maybe even the same company that you are possibly getting you cable tv from if you arent getting satellite. Right now that would be the only other option and a better option then DSL I might add.
