What Role does the modern day King/Queen of England Play?

Are they just some kind of trophy family or do they actually have duties?

    The Queen's role is to:

    * Perform the ceremonial and official duties of Head of State, including representing Britain to the rest of the world;

    * Provide a focus for national identity and unity;

    * Provide stability and continuity in times of change;

    * Recognize achievement and excellence;

    * Encourage public and voluntary service.

    In short....ceremonial.

    In a legal sense, the Queen (or King at some point) of England is the Head of State ,not only for the United Kingdom, but for all nations in the Commonwealth (Canada, Austrailia, etc.). The Prime Minister is the Head of Government. The Head of State is a largely ceremonial position, and is different in other countries. For example, the President of the US is both Head of State AND Goverment. In Germany, the Chancellor is the Head of Government, and the President is Head of State, having pretty much the same duties as the English monarch.

    To meet with the Prime Minister weekly, hear his reports, provide advice based on many years of first-hand knowledge, etc. H.M. has been Queen longer than the P.M. has been alive.

    So, the Sovereign provides continuity between governments, etc.

    She daily reads and does the "Red Boxes", being probably the most informed person in Britain.

    Last year as a freshman, I watched Romeo and Juliet in my English class and my friends and I totally thought that not only did Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens look like them, but they would be great at playing the roles! I think it would be so cool if we remade Romeo and Juliet and Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens played the roles. :D

    The Queen is the head of state and The head of the English Church she's also a Royal pain in the ****. She is also probably a little bit inbred because of the selective gene pool. ew gross inbreds!
