why do people say.........?

Can anyone tell me why people feel the need to say that they don't "do" something that really dosn't seem in context, for example someone said to me that they "don't do horror" or they "don't do jewellrey"

why do people use it in this context ?

Same reason people say "I'm cool" or call your nose your hooter. It's just trendy slang, street speak. Whatever!

Would you prefer, "I'm not into horror" that's just as bad, or good. As long as you are understood it's all OK, neither good nor bad.

Why do they feel the need to say it? Because they need to be accepted by their peers, they need to wear the same clothes, listen to the same music and speak in a pseudo secret language, to be accepted into their chosen tribe.

  • Really a bastardization of the Queen's English! They could say "I don't watch horror," or, "I don't wear jewelry." It would be correct English, and take no longer than to say "do." People are "do do" heads these days.

I think the term is slang.

Every generation basta*dises the language until it changes and evolves.

Language evolves like civilisation but possibly at a quicker rate

I know I say it because I used to watch Trev and Simon, they said things like that, on Saturday mornings, Live and Kicking I think. I know they were a bit rubbish but I used to love them.

Its called self flagellation. To express something benign about yourself in order to bond with someone else.
