There is no reason to put them down. It is not the dog but, the owner that makes their character. I have 2 that are well trained and do not bite and enjoy the attention they get from strangers. Chihuahuas are the healthiest small dog there is. When owners abuse them they will become aggressive. These little dogs are a joy to have.

They are tiny dogs.Because they are so tiny, many owners don't bother to give them the very basic training, of respect for others, and acceptable behavior..For instance, if you have a large dog that growls and barks at everyone they meet on a walk, that dog is not tolerated..However, a Chihuahua doing the same is usually just laughed at..

Even in my home, my little dog gets away with much more than my large dogs, as it isn't as irritating when she does the same things that the others would get scolded for..lol..

So, you have so many untrained, unsocialized little Chi's that are known as ankle biters, and yet their poor behavior is tolerated by the lazy or ignorant owner..

I use to raise Chihuahuas, and ours were all wonderful companions, and well socialized to be loving to strangers and chldren..

Also, all were housetrained! That is what I see so much..as they are so little, owners won't put them out to pee, and just spend their lives picking up after them! So they have not even the basics of respect..

Why do people put puppies into ovens and murder them? I think it's all the same and people need to die. All of them....

I seriously am sick of this. Every breed and mix of breeds is put down without respect. It's not like the shelter people want to do it. I realize that, but they don't really have a choice. Unscrupulous breeders and stupid people who abuse or don't train their dogs are the problem.

"Toby’s owner had the cheek to tell the pound that taking him there was cheaper than boarding a dog as they were off on holiday. If he wasn't their on their return, well never mind, they would get a puppy. (Easy come easy go!) Toby is a very unremarkable short coat 4 year old collie. He is lost, confused and so let down. This evening he wagged quietly then laid head on paws with a deep sigh."

Stuff like this happens every day and has completely soured me on the human experience of life.

There are a ton of ill-trained, yappy, paranoid, annoying, vicious chihuahuas out there. They also have huge heads that make them look top-heavy, you can't play rough or wrestle with them, and they'll never drag your unconscious uncle from a burning apartment.

When you breed a dog that small, it kind of stops being a dog, because it can't do a lot of things that make normal dogs fun. So lots of "dog people" don't like toy breeds.

    They yap

    They bite

Not all of them of course, but I used to work at a Vet's office, and let me tell you, we muzzled every single Chihuahua that came in. Big dogs had to prove they needed one, but they (and Jack Russel Terriers and Rat terriers, nasty little dogs!) ALWAYS got muzzled. The smaller the dog, the more likely it will take fingers.

They can be aggressive, snappy, noisy, and do not survive well in a dog's natural environment, ie they are susceptible to hypothermia, hypoglycemia, and become ill easily.
