Horse deal gone bad, your advice?
My husband went to look at a colt last weekend. We are not new to horses. He gave the seller a 50% deposit along with a month's board as our truck is currently in the shop so we would not be able to take him home immediately. The seller cashed both checks. Today she called to say that the colt had to be gone by Sunday as she was going on vacation. We told her that there was no way we could get him this weekend and as far as we were concerned we had until 20th July to collect him. She is now saying that she is keeping our money and will refund it if she can get him sold to someone else soon, but if not she'll consider it part of her expenses for feeding him in the meantime!! What do we do?
2 AnswersOther - Pets10 years agoShould I leave my dog's harness on instead?
I have a Bloodhound with a neck injury (yes she's being treated!). She cannot wear a collar and leash because the pressure on her neck could cause paralysis. Currently we live so far out in the country that anyone who would find her knows who she is, but we are moving. She has never escaped and the new yard is secure, but I just don't feel right not having any ID on her. She is microchipped, but if someone found her they may not check that. I just don't know what to do. If I use a collar I am worried someone might try to pull or drag her by it (the pressure from a collar makes her fall down). Her harness might rub if she wore it all the time, or get caught on something.

10 AnswersHorses1 decade agoAny tips on teaching a horse to back straight?
My mare will seldom back in a straight line. If I position her against the fence she runs my leg into it (and no i'm not inadvertently asking her to). I've tried poles on the ground but she doesn't care if she bumps them. Does anyone have any tips/tricks to train a horse to back straight?
4 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat discipline is the Stubben Cavalleria intended for?
I'd been looking for an English saddle for a long time and just bought (what seems to be) a bargain. It's a new Stubben Cavalleria for $75 with all the fittings too! It looks very different than any saddle i've used before though.
3 AnswersHorses1 decade agoWhat bit do I use for my horse?
I have a horse that does not like just about any kind of bit. She will not turn left and runs backwards throwing her head. She has had her teeth checked and wolf teeth removed. I use as little hands as I can riding her as she is extremely light. Generally the stronger the bit, the worse she acts. She rides fine in a mechanical hackamore, but I can't show her in that. The only bit she likes is a Chris Cox fixed D-ring snaffle like this http://www.chris-cox.com/catalog/product... but soon she'll be too old to show in that and will have to have a shanked bit. What can I use instead? I really don't want to buy dozens of different bits.

2 AnswersOther - Pets1 decade agoCan anyone help me identify an enormous building in Trinidad, Colorado?
I passed this building travelling on I-25 out of Trinidad, CO, but have no idea what it was and can't find photos of it. It is an enormous derelict long red brick building, on the left side of the highway. It looks like it might be a very old factory? Right next door is a derelict mansion house built of the same brick. Can anyone tell me what the name of this building is, and what it was?

3 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoHow do I trap a rattlesnake?
We have a diamondback rattlesnake under our house that bit two of my dogs, and almost bit my husband two nights before. We live 50 miles from town so can't get anyone out to remove it for us. How do we trap it or lure it out so we can dispose of it?
13 AnswersZoology1 decade agoWedding registry?
We would like to have our registry with a small company that doesn't have a registry service set up. How can we still do this? Would it be crazy to ask them to keep a list for people to order from over the phone? Would it be rude to put a link with the list on our website?

The chicks I mail-ordered have been delayed by the postal service. Will they still be ok under normal conditions if they arrive tomorrow after being shipped on Wednesday, or should I prepare for the worst?
7 AnswersBirds1 decade agoIs it warm enough for my chicks to stay outside now?
They are 6 weeks old. The weather is in the 70s during the day and around 40 at night. They are standard breeds and there are 6 of them.
