Will my chicks be dead?

The chicks I mail-ordered have been delayed by the postal service. Will they still be ok under normal conditions if they arrive tomorrow after being shipped on Wednesday, or should I prepare for the worst?

Update:

They ship overnight by mail, but the post office delayed them. They also said that unless I go to collect them from the sorting office at 4am tomorrow, they will put them in the mailbox all day until I get home :( They said the cheeping was too annoying to hang onto them until lunchtime.

Update 2:

Good news! Everybody arrived alive, they were a little cold and hungry and thirsty, but I gave them water with sugar, chopped boiled egg and chick crumbles and they are all doing great. Unfortunately they sent me 10 extra to keep the ones I ordered warm, so I have 10 roosters that I don't need!

Put them in a box & place a 40-60 watt bulb at one end of the box. The chicks will move close or away from the heat as needed. Baby chicks need to keep at 100 degrees and reduce the heat by 5 degrees every week until they reach 80 degrees. They should be kept at 75 degrees until they get a full set of feathers.

Keep your fingers crossed and say a prayer! If they're dead and it's the postal service's fault I'd make them reimburse you! Where'd you order the chicks from, anyways? I'm a teacher and have been searching for my classroom! I'm princesslovestiger@yahoo...

It's not going to be good for them if they make it at all. The lack of water for so long could be the worst, assuming they could have packed some kind of feed. Not good, sorry. They should have shipped overnight with live critters.

  • I don't know but if anything I think you should tell the people who were delievering this to you. I would feel very bad if the chicks are dead well tell us if they are or not!!!
