Why does everyone hate Avatar so much?

I know it's an american cartoon and it's not real anime, but it has a good storyline, and it's not half bad at all. So,why does everyone hate it so much?

I think it's a good show with a deep and great story, but the problem lies in the action. It's not that it lacks action, but they don't bring it out to its full potential. All of the abilities that exist in that show are so toned down in comparison to what it should theoretically be able to do. For example, airbenders should be able to create a giant vacuum of space around an enemy, but don't. Waterbenders should be able to freeze all of the moisture or blood for that matter from the enemy but don't. Earthbenders should be able to extract iron from the blood, or slowly put sand into the enemy's ear killing him, but don't. Firebenders should be able to evaporate the moisture from the enemy but don't. That's what I don't like about the show. I understand that Nickelodeon is trying to make a show for kids, but the complex story, the character interactions, and the action are geared towards maybe young or mid teens like myself. Watching other animes you can see that if a character has a certain ability, anything that that element pertains to is possible to them giving them time and training. Avatar on the other hand, don't do this. There is too much of a limit that is given to each of the characters that I think that the action ignores all of the potential that it has. In my opinion, lose the soft-core Jackie Chan action and bring in Jet li action.

When I was a kid the best dramatic animated shows were "Batman: The Animated Series" and "Exosquad"

I think there was a lull in quality animation for years after that until "Samurai Jack" and "Justice League" came along.

Then there threatened to be another gap until "Avatar" came along. It is and should be the gold standard in dramatic animation right now. I hope it stays on the air and continues along as is for a good long while.

I guess some would say its not very action packed like Naruto or Inuyasha. I like all kinds of anime as long as it has a good story line.
