If they would only realize that both God and his Son hate everything connected to Christmas--the lies, the drunkeness, the commercialism, the pagan origin, and the greediness.

They should be celebrating only what Jesus commanded Christians to celebrate and that is the "last supper" he had with his disciples on Passover. The Church leaders have failed them, by not sharing this important command from Jesus himself.

Many have no idea when to celebrate it or how.

Jesus is NOT the reason for the season. This is yet another co-opted holiday (like Easter) that the xtians adopted from the pagans. If he existed at all he was not born in December. The tree, giving gifts, red and green, stockings, Santa, lights and all the other fun things about this holiday are pagan and were around for a long time before the supposed birth of jesus. I think that xtians ought to come up with their own holiday and traditions....for once.

Ouch. My friend I think you're stretching things a little bit. While the ideas of the terms you propose aren't about "Jesus" in the most materialistic sense, the values BEHIND those terms actually evolved from some really GOOD Jesus philosophy, like "generosity", etc.

As a Buddhist I don't see anything wrong with such things unless they're being used to subdue other people's freedoms and points of view, forcing people to feel like crap about actually giving gifts, and so on, which DOES happen, but you get the idea. If people were REALLY all about Jesus' teachings, in their purest forms, then you wouldn't have HALF of the "stuff" you see going on like the Vatican's trying to control people while the Pope luxuriates in the lap of um... luxury, offering aid to victims of disasters in other countries ONLY if the people convert to Christianity, bashing the human RIGHTS of other people, etc.

I think Santa, trees and so forth are peanuts in the larger picture of what's "wrong with" religions and people's use of them, period.

Yes Santa is the product of marketing, and he has worked both for commercialism to sell and Christianity to help make the Christmas season more festive. We tried having a lighted baby Jesus in every mall for awhile, lets face it, children relate to Santa. Santa brings them toys and gifts, Jesus only brings salvation, and what does that mean to a child that can't even say the word?

I really believe that Christmas is a celebration of Jesus birth. There is nothing wrong with having a Christmas tree, giving presents, decorations, etc in and of itself. As long as you know and celebrate the actual reason for Christmas.

Some people DON'T "buy into" secular traditions of Christmas. However, the rest of us do it "for the fun of it". Not wrong to do that. Besides, Saint Nicholas actually lived at one time, giving to needy people, which gave rise to the Santa Claus tradition. He didn't have the flying deer, though, durn it. Why do they have to be connected??? Just because you like the color blue doesn't mean you can't wear a red shirt. The other things that have become a part of Christmas are fun too. Christians are not people who can only sit around reading Bibles and thinking about Jesus 24/7. Jesus is a huge part of our lives, but we do have other interests as well. We are supposed to be living too. Where do you get your ideas?

Jesus has been X ed out of Xmas. Tis the season to be money. How can people be thinking of Jesus at 3 am in line, prepared to go to war for one of 10 playsations. Praise Jesus and Xmas.
