You don't mention both of your ages which is a primary factor. Once a person terminates his place of employement, exended insurance coverage is offered to him. This should also include coverage for all family members presently covered under his insurance policy. I'm not sure why or who has given you a quote of $879.00 but that's ridiculous. I would do some marketing on line as well as contacting independent insurance brokers.

Best of Luck to you! and congrats on the retirement!

  • I would recommend a health saving plan especially if you are currently in good health. You get tax benefits on these plans and you can invest the money in assets. So you can buy a high deductible health plan so you don't have to pay much in terms of premium. This will work if your health expenses are not very high at this point of time. If you get into a serious health situation, you can travel to Costa Rica or India for health treatment at a much lower cost.

You question was very limited on info but it sounds like you are talking the medical insurance.

Are you not covered by your job ? Some people I know are getting the Walmart job just to cover medical until they are eligible for Medicare.

Unfortunately, if you want medical it is either pay the COBRA OR get a job that covers it OR wing it without and pay cash for your care.

That kind of premium is disgusting isn't it? My folks are in the same boat. Here's an idea: Become an Avon lady, only $20 to start (last time I heard). They have major medical insurance available at reasonable rates. It's worth looking into :-)

    Cover you for medical?

How old are you & what health conditions do you have?

If you are in good health, shop around.

If you have pre-existing conditions, that may be a bargain.

Guess you're going to keep working just for the benefits.
