Kidney Disease and Medicare problems, how can they be solved?

Go to the business office where he was having his dialysis- what I think has happened is that they only get paid for x amount of times in a month on the SAME ADMISSION- meaning medicare will only re-imburse the hospital for x amount of dialysis days per month. Talk with the business office and ask to talk to social services- if you get nowhere with them- call your local red cross chapter- they will direct you to the correct governmental office to talk to- and report that social worker to whoever is his/her boss!!

You can also just take him to another hospital- they HAVE to take him as a patient, make sure that hospital is equipped for dialysis. Good luck to you and your brother- you are a loving sister.

Oh that is just awful. That scares me as my girlfriend has a kidney disease - very rare - and it may eventually lead to dialysis and even transplant.

Medicare is very poorly run. Is there any health insurance provider that can aide you in this? I know it takes time but I guess you need to contact all of the right places like his Dr, a medical board maybe, medicare itself.

My next suggestion would be to take it to the media. Someone like a current affair or today tonight would have a field day with this story. Not that I mean it in a bad way but they push the limits on these things and even if they can't get medicare to change their mind they might be able to help set up an appeal.

to the best of my knowledge-- medicare should cover Dialysis. He could also apply to SSI for disability. Contact Social security and have his Dr. write them a letter. If his MD isn't helpful- find another nephrologist (kidney specialist)
