The Stone Age persons learned to use a set of sounds to mean a particular living being, object, or action - which 'sets' were later formalised into the 'words' of their primitive dialects.

When it came to recording these words, that had to be initially done through pictures, which were later simplified into symbols - from which the forerunners of our present-day alphabets were conceived !

...Even now, the most complicated of thoughts are initially formed in the human mind as a series of moving images - which are immediately 'translated' and 'formatted' by one's brain into words of whatever language that person is accustomed to communicating in...

I think that is an individual thing. Young babies who do not fully understand language most likely think in pictures and feelings and sounds. Once we learn language (talking) and can understand what words mean, then is when I think people begin to think in words.

I think most people think in words and picture the really interesting things. there are some who say they can not picture things in their mind so not everyone thinks in pictures. I think it depends on how visual you are.

Most people probably think primarily in words and attach pictures for some of it.

It depends on the type of thinker someone is. Some people see more images than others do.

For people who think in words, obviously if they think of a lamp they'll have an image of lamp and attached the word to it; but for "word-thinkers" sometimes it is just words.

People take in information in different ways and think in different ways, depending (again) on what type of thinkers they are.

Images and actions are how thoughts are processed in my mind, then they are translated into a language when its needed to be shared.
