Why are people afraid of hair stylists?
I (as a hair stylist for 14 years) still don't understand the reason that some people won't come into a salon when they know they should. Another thing, why do some people try doing their own hair first then end up messing it up and then its just a bigger mess to clear up when they do decide to come into the salon.
i need to understand this from the clients point of view.
thanks everyone.

im a hairdresser who has just left to have a baby. so for the first time, i have sat in a salon-not working and been able to observe. i think that clints can feel either intimidated-cause of young, beauitful, well groomed women/men floating round or just plain find us annoying. sitting in the salon i have realised how over bearing the stylists can be with their chatter-it really gave me a headache!!cant believe that was me!lol! but seriously, i know i can talk my way around any boo boo i have made-like taking too much off! and the crap i used to tell my clients- now i wonder y any1 came bak 4more! its just the whole atomsphere- people either LOVE it or HATE!!

I know that every stylist is different, but everytime I have a problem with my hair, or want to try something new, their solution is the same: chop it off, add layers - lots of layers.
So no matter what I start with, I leave with poofy, over-sprayed hair, that sits a foot above my head, and ends at my ears.
My hair is shoulder length now, and a tiny bit split at the ends, so needless to say, I'm staying light years away from any salon for a while.

You have to tell her that your not happy with the end result of your latest hair appointment. Give her a chance to make it right. Business is business and if she is not delivering, you have the right as a paying customer to go somewhere else. There is nothing worse than a bad hair do, but if you really like her, give her a chance to do better. Other wise she might not know how you feel and doesn't know she made a mistake. That's how she will get better, learning from her mistakes. Unfortunately its your hair.

I have had some serious mess ups from hair stylists so I suppose you could say I'm afraid sometimes.
You ever get up and get ready and your hair just won't do anything because it needs cut and you're in a hurry so you try to fix it yourself?? LOL That's a disaster.

I've never had a hair stylist that did what i wanted them to do. I always feel really itimidated. Sometimes i really just want to sit there and mind my own business and don't want to chat for 2 hours. I just find the whole experience really uncomfortable.

Here are a couple of common reasons:
-Money
-Not knowing/trusting them
-Might mess of their hair
-Not convienent(too far away from their house)
-Just dont want to get it done from a hair salon
Maybe try advertising your company, make a website with testimonals or some pictures of your results

Might be that they are scared that a hair stylist will mess up their hair... I'm not afraid, but hey... some people have weird phobias.

i'm scared of walking into salons myself because i'm quite short-sighted and when i take off my glasses i have no idea what they're doing to my hair...(i don't wear contact lens)
plus they always cut WAY too much hair, when i asked for an inch they'd cut whole 4 inches away...
