What does it mean to be a Christian to you?

My sis in law throws the word Christian out to separate her friends intro groups, ie her "Christian friends". My wife and I aren't included because we don't regularly go to church I guess but we still consider ourselves Christians. What do you think?

One of the "modern" phenomena that America is experiencing is churchless Christians. 80% of those polled claim to be Christian and yet approximately 33% are in church on Sunday.

I hope your sil is using such statements from the joy of her own faith. It is a lousy way to witness or to bring others to church. It can also be a form of judgement which is harmful to her faith.

As Christians, I think you can, in prayer and love, explain the facts to her.

A Christian is anyone who gives lip service to any of the various Jesus cults. By definition, like all other religions, you are delusional superstitionists, who subscribe to the notion that some god created a god/human hybrid abomination against reason and logic called Jesus. Your sis in law should probably be classified as a Hypo-Christian.

I agree with you.If you believe in Jesus as your Savior then your saved. We are to follow the commandments as we live on earth.I don`t go to church anymore ,but use to live there.I believe salvation and love of God makes you a christian.Heard a pastor at a funeral yesterday talking about who would be in Heaven,he said there would be three surprises,One that you made it, two who else made it,as there are going to be those that many said would never make it in but low and behold there they are.See God knows the heart. And third those who don`t make it in.There will be those you think are so good and guess what their christanity was only on the outside, but inside they were black as coal.

You don't have do go to church to be a Christian (though this is a good thing to do). If you pray, read the Bible, and try to be a good person on top of believing in God and Jesus you are a Christian.

A Christian is someone who has asked the Lord to come into their hearts and save them and they live for him that means that unholy thoughts do not enter your mind a Christian is someone who tries to be a witness to others so that the Lord will save them as well if u live for God then u will be a happy person, that doesn't mean that bad things don't happen to people, that is Gods way of testing us and the devil trying to sneak in ,in those kind of sittuations thats when we need to have faith that the Lord will have his will be done

A Christian is anyone that has accepted Jesus' death on the cross for the forgiveness of their sins, and believes that He rose from the dead three days after. That is a Christian.

That person will also believe that Jesus is God, and Jesus is the only way to heaven, and the way out of eternal hell that awaits all who do not believe.

I believe many call themselves Christian; however he is not a Christian who calls himself a Christian; but he is a Christian whom God calls a Christian. "If any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him." (Romans 8:9). "Unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God" (John 3:3) Paul said "Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you? - unless indeed you fail the test." (II Corinthians 13:5)

The earmarks of a true Christian are elaborately spelled out in the First Epistle (Letter) of John. Chief among these are a sincere faith and true love of God demonstrated by a love for His children. This love is made evident through obedience to His commandments, as spelled out in the teachings of Christ and His apostles. This obedience issues out of a genuine love and gratitude toward God in response to the gift of eternal life and the redemption that comes through the blood of Christ.

The opinions of men are of little importance and as changeable as the weather. The testimony of God in the Scriptures, and Jesus said "the Scriptures cannot be broken", are the only reliable gauge in evaluating our true state in the eyes of God.

Christianity is based on faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind. Jesus was the promised messiah and king prophesied about throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament is the explaination and revelation of His coming and that He will come again.

We put our faith in Jesus Christ that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to cover our sins forever and that we might also overcome sin and death. He will forgive us for our sins and bring us into new life in Christ. We leave our old life of sin behind and walk on in newness of life in Christ.

John 14.6 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me."

Romans 10.9-11 "9 If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed."

    Hope that helps.

you have to be a bit on the slow side to believe this , or if your a pretty smart person , then your just gullible, the bible is nonsense! its NOT historical fact , its a historical scam, govts have been using this "novel" as a control-device to decieve you and alter your perception of reality , and the reality is this, since the creation or evolution of man , strange omnipotent beings are up in the sky watching you and your every move, kinda sounds like a spiritual santa claus doesnt it? since the dawn of time there has been an alpha-male in every block of gender based lifeform on this planet, modern man has CREATED an omnipotent alpha-male so that you never question his authority no matter how bogus it sounds, and you idea-intolerant people get on my nerves, leave the bible where it belongs, on the bullshitters podium in church!
