I want to quit smoking, but I have had no success...help?

I have been a smoker for 15 years. I have tried slowly cutting down. I have tried cold turkey. I have tried patches, gum, and losengez, none of which has helped. I am addicted. I have four children I don't want to turn into mrs. bit.h and I fear loosing my temper with them trying to quit. I also fear gaining more weight as I have already put on fourty pounds this year. I am a full-time student, and stress out easily. When I try to quit I have tons of anxiety, sweats, shakes, no differently than someone coming off some other drug. Last time I quit I was doing quite well, but my taste buds were reexperiencing things for the first time, and many of my favorite foods tasted nasty... so nasty that I resorted to sweets for norishment ad keep the foul taste out of my mouth. I grew up a third generation smoker... I want a better quality of life than ending up with stroke, heart attack, cancer or emphazima. I want a better quality of life for my children also unlike I had.

Update:

My husband is supportive & relies on me so that he can quit his smoking as well, adding more stress if I screw up...as if I am responsible for his quiting too. I used to buy cigarettes to just hold the pack , but he goes and opens them and smokes messing up my point of just holding, them (then leading to one and then another) for security as funny as that may sound. I also couldn't stand the smell of my house and moving is not an option at this time.

I heard on the radio that the average smoker attempts to quit 8 times before success. So don't get tired of trying to quit.

Check out this new prescription drug called: Chantix

It has just been released and supposedly has a higher quitting success than the Zyban (Wellbutrin) especially for women. Good luck.

I started smoking for a very stupid reason. when i was in college some guy was smoking next to me. Stupid me thought i would try one and that would be that. Boy was i wrong. i came home for Christmas and my dad warned me that i would get addicted. I just did not listen. I have smoked on and off for the past 9 years. My doc gave me a new drug called chantix. you keep smoking while you take the first pack of of the drug (i think its 10 days) and than you stop smoking, but keep taking the pills until you are ready to stop. My advice for those who smoke or are thinking about it. DONT even have one cig.. once you do you are hooked and for those who already do smoke. STOP. i know its easier said than done, but you will feel better, you will smell better and most of all..you will live lot longer.

I know this sounds strange- But I have heard a lot of folks swear by this....

Read the book by Allen Carr Easyway to stop smoking.... It worked for Ashton Kutcher (Demi Morres husband) he smoked since he was 14 and quit for his last movie with Kevin coaster about the coast gaurd...

    Good luck

I read it and it worked for me too!

They even say don't quit while reading it and tell you to light up in the book as you read parts...

Its really hard and i commend you for trying. All i can say its that is takes practice. I tried stopping for 2 and half years before i finally got it right. Speak to your doctor about nicotine substitutes to start easing you off. Good luck

Find another hobby to dedicate you smoking passion to.

Instead of cigarette, try a piece of fruit instead.

That way, you can get addicted to being healthy!

    Have you tried sports?

    Like: swimming, golf?

=) sports need a good stamina and pair of lungs,

it could motivate you to keep a good stamina and you will want to leave cigarettes.
