I think that the best Stephen King book I ever read is "Salem's Lot", the funniest in a very ironic black sense of humor, was "Pet Semantary". I feel his worst book was the "Dreamcatcher" he could have worked the idea of world invasion and parasites (s-weasels) better.

And frankly Stephen King disillusioned me when he wrote , "On Writing" and made it public that he wrote most of his books under the influence of either drugs or alcohol, for years I wondered how he got his ideas, somewhat, his exposure put him down a couple notches on that podium I had put him in. Do not take me wrong, some of the best writers in the world, were drug addicts or drunks, such as Poe and Byron, but somehow, by looking at Stephen King's picture on the back of his books, he did seem the type, as he did himself describe it in some of his books,"Dance Macabre" through his eyes, in those photos, he "had" the "inner-child" that he attributes to other authors. To learn candidly that he wasted a lot of his time stoned was a shock. This goes to show a person that reality does not appear as it seems.

3 books by Stephen King I would recommend are Salem's Lot, The Tommyknockers, and The Shining. The Tommyknockers may seem a little weird to you at first, but it's awesome and a great read. I hope this helps you!

Not really a "best answer" worthy post but the only thing I can say is the "Dark Tower" series is an absolute must for any King fan.

The Stand and Bag of Bones are also two of my favorites.

The Dark Tower series - no question. It is mind-blowingly amazing! His other books are great, but the Tower is the center of the entire Stephen King universe.

The Stand is really great as well.
