yes, it happen to mine. It has 2% free space left and start going super slow to the point where I couldn't turn it on. If you have a lot of things like music, games or etc, you can get a removable storage item like a flash drives, zip drives or something so you can still have your other stuff like music and games and free up space or your computer.

Well it can slow down your computer. Also Microsoft recomends that your local disk should have at least about 500 MB of free space at all times. So if you are not willing to spend money on more space just delete lod umwanted files from your computer. If you are willing to spend money do keep in mind that if you computer is more then 2 years old it is better to buy an external Hard Disk.

Not in Windows XP but prior versions of Windows that didn't utilize "virtual memory" can. Windows 98, 95 and 3.1 will DEFINITELY crash if the memory limit is exceeded. I don't have too much experience with 2k or NT so I'm not sure about those.

I found a solution to freezing computers, black screens auto shut down and blue screen. I had all that and I filled my 1 gig hard drive with downloaded music and movies. I was running at 55 gigs with avast running, performance monitor and Malwarebytes. I moved 50 gigs of movies to my external. not only did my laptop run superfast but its been a week now and everything seems ok. before it was shutting, freezing down 9 times a day every day. Oh I did a defrag as well.so I believe low Ram will freeze your system especially if your running resource eaters like avast.

Yes if there is not enough memory then the system hang occurs and you'll need to restart your system.
P.S: Sometimes might cause a crash also

No, but it can surely slow down your system to a crawl depending upon the amount of RAm you have and the type of applications or processes that are running in the background.

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
