Soft Tape Measure: what is it?

Is it the kind of roll tailors use to measure? Is the measurement on it different from the tape measure used in carpentry?

Thanks.

The tapes your talking about used by tailors and seamstresses are Tape Measures. An inch is an inch is an inch. However, if you need exact measurements, say for a window, take your tape measure to the hardware store to use for measuring before cutting. I learned this when I had glass panels cut for my curio cabinet and the glass pieces were all too big, by almost 1/4 inch. They didn't fit so it cost me a bundle. Over 50 years ago, my dad, a contractor, used a wooden folding tape for all his work. He never trusted the metal ones.

There are cloth ones, like tailors use. I had a 100 ft fiberglass cloth one, but the problem is that it stretched. The measurement is the same, except that a carpentry one is marked in red every 16 inches to give you the wall stud locations.
