Most Arab nations have elections on some level, contrary to popular US belief. It's good that the UAE had a tiny one, but it's significant that less than 1/3 of the population has citizenship and that only 6,700 people were eligible to vote. In other words, this is not really big news. I wonder whether Fox will trumpet it as a sign that democracy is speading in the middle east.

i live in the united arab emirates and yeah it is the first election but it wasnt only for men there were so many women, and not so many voted because of the small population, most of our population comes from different nationalities.

Yeah, only 7000 people were allowed to vote - all of them men hand picked for that task...This is a progress of course, but as far from democracy as you can get when it comes to real voting.
