Hello, Peter, I applaud your question. Freemasons still exist. I am one. In fact, I belong to the rather esoteric Order called American Order of Co-Masonry. I say "esoteric" because we have kept the old rites and rituals plus we admit women, as well as men. We are the heirs to the ancient mystery schools of Greece, Babylon, and Egypt.

To become a member you must be patient. First you must be at least 21 years old, of good character (we do interview you), of any race, believe in a Supreme Being (what you call that Supreme Being is your own business), be tolerant of other religions and races, wish to improve the world by improving yourself.

We are alchemists, Peter. We change the lead of our hearts into gold. The magic works but it works slowly. It takes over a year from the time you walk into the door until you are considered an adult (Master) able to vote and hold office. You must study and memorize things, things you may not understand. You must sit silently in Lodge and watch. And just when you think you understand, a new responsibility is given to you and your heart opens that much wider. Are you interested?

We are not a social club in Co-Masonry. I drive 800 miles a month to attend my two "Blue Lodges" (Hiram and Amon Ra). Our goal is to improve this world.

We are not a religion. We work on morals without the cult and dogma you find in a religion. We take for our lessons the symbols of the ancient stone masons, for to change the human will is like molding stone. Pretty tough stuff.

If I can be of service, please feel free to write me.

You need to be a male Protestant (preferably high Anglican) and need to be sponsored by someone already in the organisation. Once you're in you're in for life and need to go to regular meetings. But they can really help your career. Find a member and see if they will sponsor you.

Their goals are to further the Protestant faith through industry and they are still active.

You do not just join, you have to be invited and sponsored.

The web will give you an answer to your main questions as you will not get them from a serving member.
