What should I look for in a microphone?
I have a small amp and sing with an acoustic guitar. There are about 200 varieties of microphones ranging in price from 30 to 400 dollars. What do I need to know?
Good point. I need it for vocals.

Have a look at the following:
http://www.cassette2cd.co.uk/studio
you will find a section explaing how mic's work and a section for which mic's work best for different instruments or voice.
The Shure SM58 is a good standby for vocals - not so good for acoustic guitar though.... For studio recording, you should consider a condenser mic, for live, the SM58 would be worth thinking about for vocals at least, everyone uses them and they are really cheap ($100).
Hope this helps

It depends on what you are going to use it for. Vocals, micing drums, recording...
