Is Marijuana legal in Canada?

I keep hearing about the good pot they have in Canada. Are the cannabis laws more relaxed or is it legal?

No, it is not legal in Canada. That being said, medical marijuana has been allowed and is grown under federal supervision. Possession is still illegal but depending on the amount and where in Canada you are, penalties can vary greatly. BUT IT IS ILLEGAL.

    P.S.

And it will show up on a criminal record check, it has not been de-criminalized yet although there is a strong call for possession of under 1 ounce to be a ticket, rather than a crime. Not law yet though.

**Best answer** Smoking, selling, and having possession of marijuana in Canada in illegal like it is in the U.S. However, it is widely tolerated. There has been instances of people smoking and walking right past police officers and nothing will happen. People smoke opening in downtown Toronto. Occasionally you might get a slap on the wrist, or a police officer will tell you to put it out. But it is widely tolerated. That is not to say that any other drugs are tolerated, quite the opposite. There are bars and places where you can smoke and they advertise it...they are illegal also. However, the police will tolerate it until enough people complain or the media decides to make an issue out of it. I believe it's agreed in most of Canada that although there are negatives to marijuana it's not as bad as smoking cigarettes and drinking. Drunk people can get angry and fight...I haven't heard of too many people being stoned and fighting...too passive. The police have better things to do than arrest someone in their 20s or 30s for smoking a joint...it's not legal, not decriminalized (it was for a small period), but it's very tolerated.

Marijuana is not legal, it is not decriminalized, it is still and offense to to in posses marijuana, marijuana paraphernalia, to grow and distribute marijuana. That is in all parts of Canada.

Yes the laws may be a little more relaxed than some of our neighbours, however a possession charge although a fine will still get you a criminal record.

    It's not legal.

But, if you have a "personal" sized amount of pot (like a joint or something) then you won't get in much trouble (mostly because I'm pretty sure the cops around here will just smoke it anyways). If you have enough though that you're suspected of trafficking and selling, you're screwed.

No, it's not legal - it's decriminalized.. I don't know the laws in the States, but i'm pretty sure it's more lax up here. If you have more than 30 grams, you can be fined, but it doesn't not show on your record. Recreational use is fine....as long as you're not traffiking (or however it's spelt). LOL I'm pretty sure that's true about the cops, too, Dinner!
