Invisaline Braces?
Anyone tried Invisaline? I have been considering braces and wanna know what people think of these. I am a little old for braces and I am afraid I would be self conscious with metal braces. It seems strange that such a little piece of plastic should be able to straighten teeth. So here's my questions: how uncomfortable is it? how long does it take to get results? Any info would help. THANKS.

To answer your questions:
Older is actually better for Invisalign. The older you are, the more likely you'll wear them at least 22 hours per day as recommended.
The "little pieces of plastic" are aligners and they really do move teeth. Sometimes, a dentist will use invisable "buttons" on some of the back teeth to act as anchors and give a little more power to the movement.
I've never worn them, but patients in our office to not complain of pain. There may be a little discomfort due to pressure on the teeth, but nothing a Tylenol wouldn't fix.
How long it takes depends on your individual case. I've seen minor corrections take only 5 months, more difficult cases can take 12 to 18 months.
Cost may be less than regular braces, depending on where you go. Look for a general dentist who has been doing Invisalign for several years. Only a dentist can tell you if your case is suitable for Invisalign or if you need metal brackets and wires.
These days, there are alternatives to metal brackets - clear brackets are less noticable, but require extra care to keep from staining.

These have only been around for a few years and I have not spoken to anyone who has had them. I too have some doubt.
Supposedly you get results and are done in less than two years. I talked to an orthodontist about them and he highly recommended them but I am skeptical. They mean almost no work for the orthodontist aside from taking the initial impressions. A factory makes the actual series of plastic appliances. I cannot imagine that wearing something like this would move all the teeth in your mouth, and the main thing that bothers me is that they are removable! Take them off to brush and eat and your teeth are going to move back to where they were. You wear a series of up to 20 different plastic pieces over your teeth.
The cost was $4000, same as regular braces.
I personally decided against them. They don't make any sense to me as to how they can do this job.

I am a dental assistant and I went through traditional ortho back when I was 17. I stopped wearing my retainers and sure enough my teeth started shifting. I decided to get Invisalign. It worked wonders!!! The best way to see if Invisalign is right for you is to go to an invisalign provider for a consultation. The dentist sends in your info (pictures, xrays, and impressions) to the actual company: Invisalign. There are consultants there that actually determine whether or not you could benefit from Invisalign. If your case is too complicated, they will decline and recommend regular braces. So, it is worth a try!! I am very pleased with my results.

Invisalign is best for teeth that need simple straightening. If you have an overbite or a crooked jaw, metal braces will be better for you. How long you wear corrective braces will depend on your teeth, but a common time period is 1-2 yrs.

try it you would like the improvement it gives after awhile of wearing them but invisaline braces is better...sometimes you would only need them for six mo.or close to a year all depends on your situation...you wouldn't even know you are wearing them...

I've heard it's a scam. I work in a dental lab. It's very expensive too.
