i get my attacks at anytime anywhere. they just come out of the blue. i can't figure out what triggers them. i tried therapy, i'm on meds now, 10 mg celexa. the thing that races through my mind while i'm having my attacks is my heart is pounding, i'm going to have a heart attack and die. can any one please give me any techniques, besides the breathing, and imagination thing. thanks!

I don't have a fast fix for the attacks but maybe a way to make them all go away. May I suggest you try improving your diet? Do it for 3 months, maybe use some herbals known to help anxiety while you are improving your diet. Eat only vegetables, fruits, eggs, nuts, beans, and a small amount of meats. Take fish oil supplements to balance your omega 6/3 ratio. Use only olive oil, or coconut oil (unrefined)-make your own salad dressings. No prepared foods (including cereals), no fast foods. No sodas, sugar, pizza, bread, pasta, rice, corn, or wheat, or any known junk food - jello, etc.) If you try this, I bet you will be "cured". Do not go off your medication suddenly, when you are ready to go off, cut only 10% at a time with at least 3 weeks between cuts (until you feel stable) Meds can be dissolved or ordered in liquid form in order to cut the requred small amounts. email me at grammylaura59@yahoo.com if you have any questions and especially to let me know if it works.

Well you can hate doctors all you want to but until you go to one. You will never know what your problem is. Since you seem to respect the opinion of all us Yahooligans more than you do a licensed, trained physician. Take OUR advise and OUR referral and go to the damn Doctor. In dealing with the heart...you really have no other option. It may very well be a blocked artery, a murmur, a small hole in your heart, anything? You could talk all day here and someone might have some insight, but anything they ever had to say either way if it appeased what you want to hear or not isn't going to actually be able to tell you if there is actually something wrong with your ticker. Go have a stress test!

I had them for 4yrs without meds....I now take effexor xr and klonapin to control them and my ptsd. I still have the panic attacks but not nearly as often as I used too. I have no idea what triggers them...when I think about traumatic events that have happened in my life though I have a panic attack, driving and public places too...I think your best bet is to read up on them I did lots of research and workbooks to help with mine...they never completely went away and if you go to long without treatment then it is harder to cure them...my doctor says I have to go 12months without having one before I can get off my meds or I will just go back to how it was before...I am in a support group and that helps a lot too because not everyone understands what you are going through...good luck to you...

i don;t think you can cure yourself
i have had panic and anxiety attacks all of my life
before i was put on meds i was a mess..i had the same feelings you had....
for many years i have been on xanax and amytryptline and Zoloft
they help but i still get them sometimes for no reason at all
it scares my family because the think i am having a heart attack
i can't breathe i sweat i shake
IMO
keep taking meds or have your doc try others to see if they help you
best of luck to you
i have been there for a long time
oh..the Zoloft is for depression not the attacks
therapy did not help mine at all!!

You said you tried therapy, how long did you do it? There very well might be buried, underlying psychological causes for why you experience the anxiety that you do. Maybe you should go to a better therapist or psychologist. The drug thing isn't going to solve the underlying problems, just dull the anxiety.

I have had panic attacks for years. It does make you think that you will die,or are having a heart attack. When i get one I also get very claustrophobic.I have to get out of the house.I don't know what triggers them but I do know that they will pass in time.I like to get out & walk or run to get my mind off of them. After they pass I get very weak I am on Lorazapan it helps me,an I have tryed them all.

Without durgs and treatments i have found there is a way to control it. when you feel it comming on take a deep breath and hold it in while flexing your stomach and tell yourself NO! and mean it. it takes a while but soon they will be few and far between. you'll learn to control what has control over you. don't let it happen.
