Who decides sex of the baby??

My in-laws have no girls on the fathers side of the family, so they are determined that I will not have a girl. I was wondering if there was any truth to that. Which parent decides the sex of the baby? Or is there a deciding factor??

It's the man's sperm that decides sex of the baby.

Have you heard of that thing (not sure what it's called) you can pay big bucks for to pick your baby's sex? They do that by determining male and female sperm.

You may have a girl though, you could be the gender breaker of the family.

the only factor is the man who fathers the child. Men have an XY gene and woman have an XX gene. The sperm from the male is either going to be an x or a y, so that will determine the sex of the baby. That other crap is old wives tales.

    The father does.

    Females have the chromosome XX.

    Males have XY.

The female contributes one chromosome. She ONLY has the "option" of giving an X.

The male contributes one chromosome as well. His body has the option of giving the X, which would make XX (female), or the Y, which would make XY (male).

Therefore, the father is the deciding factor.

However, the CHANCES of girl or boy are 50/50. In some families, it just so happens that more girls/boys are conceived, where in others, it tends to be a kind of split.

a woman has XX intercourse chromosomes and a male has XY. All eggs carry a single X chromosome and the sperm could be the two X or Y. If a Y sperm fertilises the egg the youngster would be male, if an X sperm fertilises the egg the youngster would be lady. So its the male's sperm that makes a decision the intercourse every time, we ladies individuals have not have been given any say in it lol

Uless your baby is cooked in a lab nobody decides it.

However, whichever of the sperm penetrates the egg first will determine if it's a boy or a girl. It actually doesn't matter how many boys or girls are on either side. In genetics class one of the first things you'll lear in no matter what (unless it's cooked in a lab) there's 50% chance for a boy & 50% chance for a girl!

    Good luck!

the sex chromosomes of the human female are xx, and the male sex chromosome is xy. when a man and woman conceive a baby, the woman sort of "donates" the x part, and the man's sperm will carry either the x or y chromosome. if a sperm containing x fertilizes the egg, you get a girl, if a sperm carrying y fertilizes the egg, you get a boy.

the father...there is an "x"(female) chromosome and a "y"(male chromosome) which are in sperm. women are "xx" and men are "xy". babies get an "x" from the mother and then the sperm decides whether the child then gets an "x" or "y".....making the child a boy or girl

i hope that wasnt confusing...basically to answer the question it is the male

The man had the boy/girl chromosome. In a female that number on the dna chain is a blank.

Hon....the woman carries all X chromosomes...in her "eggs"....it is up to the father, who carries both X and Y chromosomes in his sperm....to determine the sex of the baby....
