What is the DV out on my camcorder for?

there is a slot on my sony camcorder that is kind of square shapped.... what is that slot for.......would it be to connect it to my mac and sync the videos?

    This is probably a firewire connection for use with computers. If you have a Mac, you can use iMovie, for example, to import your video from the camcorder for editing.

    You can also output it back to tape - the firewire connection is both ways.

    Yes. DV in/out connection is called "iLink" in sony camcorders. It allows you to download the videos from your minidvs or digital8 tapes to your pc, as you were dowloading photos from a digital camera. Also, it lets u upload videos from your pc to your mindv or digital8 tapes.
