We decided to have our satelite turned off to help encourage our son's imagination. So now after almost three years of no TV at all we are finally getting it hooked back up. My mother-in-law convinced us that with parental controls and rules about how long he can watch each day that he will still be creative. I always liked CSI and Law & Order. My son is 6 and we now have a 2 year old daugthter as well, my husband is a history buff, so what shows will each of us enjoy? Are their any good family series out there anymore? Please list stations that they come on so I can look them up. Thanks.

I really like Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (Mondays on NBC), if you ever used to watch The West Wing, it's the same kind of fast dialogue and witty characters. Heroes (NBC, also Monday) is also good, but very hard to catch up on. My mother loves to watch Friday Night Lights on Tuesdays on NBC, it's a very real drama that has good plots.

For good cartoons, if you want them, I love The Fairly Odd Parents on Nickelodeon. Also, for your kids, Sesame Street never goes wrong on PBS, along with most other things on PBS. There's also the History Channel, The Discovery Network (Mythbusters is a very fun show), and Animal Planet (Growing Up... teaches about a certain animal from infancy).

    Good Luck.

Disney has some great shows on. Phil of the Future, That's So Raven and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody are fun for the whole family. Of course Sesame Street and Elmo (PBS) teach my 3 & 6 year old a ton of stuff, but then so does Blues Clues (Noggin and Nick Jr.) and a lot of playhouse Disney in the morning (Wiggle, JoJo's Circus, Charlie and Lola - talk about creativity!). The history channel occasionally has shows for the whole family - they do the History of a certain type of food and over the holidays they did a couple shows about Christmas lights and traditions.

Of course, my personal favorites are Whose Line is it Anyway (on ABC Family), the Daily show with Jon Stewart (Comedy Central) and Original Star Trek (Midnights on Nick at Night).

    Peace!

CSI: Miami is the best show on TV right now. For family series.....gosh, what family series are on TV anymore? All the shows are either too stupid to keep the parents interested, or too mature for the kids. Disney Channel is probably the best for kids though, Playhouse Disney is for the younger children and comes on in the mornings until 1. That is the best I can reccomend, if you are willing to sacrifice your brain and watch that crap.

I like Mythbusters, it is very cool. I would also recommend Discovery Atlas. The Discovery Channel profiled in depth several people in particular countries. It's really fascinating to learn about other cultures (so far I've seen the China, Brazil and Australia ones, I haven't seen the one on Italy). I'm curious as to what other countries they will be profiling (I think South Africa is on the list).

On the lighter, adult side, I watch Men in Trees (ABC Thursday nights) and How I Met Your Mother on CBS Monday nights.

Pokemon is a show the whole family can get into. It's fun, exciting, colorful and has enough character development and story arcs to keep everyone entertained.

There are 3 different Pokemon series currently on Cartoon Network.

You and your husband might enjoy The Amazing Race, but I don't think it's back on until September. But you might also like The Apprentice, which begins in January.

As for shows you can enjoy with your two kids, I'd suggest anything on the Disney channel.

  • star trek!! He is way to young for csi, but shows like WWE thats entertaining its on USA, also Monk, and Disney channel cartoons, he is just a kid, so dont put to much violence, a real good station would be TV land. It has old shows that are clean. Like Brady bunch, I dream of Jeanni, Fun and clean.
