a blank cd can hold many books worth of text. you can fit very conservatively 665600 pages of double spaced text. This number can be greatly increased if you use a file compressor such as zip. as for the scaning to text you can surf the net for software that does that very job. i dont think it would be extreamly expensive. but if you want to not buy anything i would sugjest saving your files as .gif and if you can set the pallette to only 2 colors (black and white) you should get a fairly small file size, not as small as plain text though.

If we're talking about a Word document, open the document, then click File, Save as ... Here, make note of where it will be saved, give it a filename, then click the down arrow next to filetype and select text.
If you just want to save them, you could also zip them with a program like Winzip.
Regarding space, as you save documents, periodically go to My Computer, right-click on the drive and choose Properties. You will see how much space has been used and how much is left.
To save documents on a CD and reopen, so far as I know you will have to use CD/RWs which you will have to format with your burner's software before using as a floppy.
Now that we have flashdrives, and they hold so much more, I store and backup to them.

With a common CD-R you could shop including documents to a disc, as long as you do no longer close the consultation. With a CD-RW you could shop including documents to a disc, then you definately can erase it whenever you like. so a techniques as i'm conscious you could no longer certainly edit documents on a CD-RW such as you may with a floppy disc as an occasion. magnificent different than making use of a USB flash tension, is to purchase a DVD-RAM tension. DVD-RAM drives can write to particular DVD-RAM discs, it is easy to apply and prefer making use of an extremely large floppy disc. maximum of those drives may additionally write to CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW etc. i bought an NEC DVD-RAM tension which became approximately £30 and helps all the above formats. Dougie.

You can get hundreds of text files on a CD.. Problem is, when you get that many files on a CD it takes MUCH longer to access them than if they were on a hard drive. Also be aware that one little scratch on a CD will render a lot of your files useless.

Well if you put into a disk that saves as data then you could fit more and take them off also put more on them because they are data for files and you can take and put things on them anytime. You could also scan the book but open it in Microsoft word.

If your disk size is 700MB then it will hold that much space...text documents are usually short i think you will be able to put all your documents in that cd

at ten MB per book it would hold 70
so if you had some books at 1MB or less you could hold well over 1000

1CD = 700 MB = 700*1024 KB
it is about 700 000 pages.
scan it as doc then save it as text
Don't forget to send me one
