What is considered to be "a high Iq"?
I see alot of people walking around stating that thier Iq is tremendously high. When I ask what theres is they normally say something to the effect of (100-135). So I was wondering what a high Iq was. Thanks for your answers in advance.

downs 90, average 100, genius 140 +.
Bear in mind that an IQ test is culturally (and socio-economically) specific. In the 50's a lot of ethnic children were said to have low IQ's because of their inability to answer questions such as... knife is to fork as cup is to.....?
You need to be familiar with a cup and saucer to answer the question.
Modern IQ tests are weighted toward mathematical or reasoning skills and you can therefore get better at them with practice.
It is currently generally accepted that there are 'different' intelligences and that an IQ test does not adequately measure a wide enough range to be a fair reflection of how intelligent one person is compared to another.
An IQ test is, broadly speaking, a test of western, school - based performance.

Very few IQ tests are accurate. I took a certain IQ test and I got 169 or something. Another one said 120. I think mine's somewhere around 138, but I can't really know...
Well, officially, 100 is average, 101-129 is above average, 130+ is genius (but I think to be genius it should really be a bit higher, more like 150). I think 130 should probably be considered high. However, a lot of people with high IQ's aren't really that smart in reality. Just because their mind is smart doesn't mean they don't have the wisdom of a horsefly (hence the internet noob is born).

The IQ rating isn't really that accurate, as todays society is specialized in answering tests/exams, and the actual IQ test doesn't take this into consideration.
A high IQ is 120- or over. But this is in theory. I frequently score 130-145 in IQ tests, which do not even really apply to me as English is not my native language (hence, I am theoretically "disadvantaged" and should score higher).
In the western world, people you would consider slow, score 95-110. I have yet to notice an equal distribution to the scores lower than 100 than there is to scores over 100, though in theory they should be symmetric. If I score 140, there should be someone scoring 60... which is what Forrest Gump supposedly scored.

125+. This is the break point. Only 5% of the population is 125 or above. You also can use this as the cut-off for high IQ societies. The 5%'ers are the lest of the IQ societies. Above 130, about 2% of the population. So, if a lot of the people you know are claiming high IQ's, then they are probably fibbing.

Say, I've been wondering at that, same you did.
There's apparently a non-written general agreement that high IQ's start at 140 and upwards, although I couldn't say on what basis it's been set.
Now, I think it's a bit silly to size up a person's intellectual qualities on his/her high IQ only. It only proves this person has an unusual ability to address a number of predetermined questions that cannot wholly represent what his/her behavior and response will be in many other instances.

90-100 average
100-125 intelligent
125-135 highly intelligent
136-149 gifted
150+ genius

120+
The problem with IQ tests is that they do not take into consideration common sense. I have more respect for people with common sense, general knowledge and consideration of others compared someone with none of these qualties but could answer a complex math question etc.

Between 95-115 is average. 115 to 129 is above average. 130 -150 is gifted and over 150 is genius

Thats just above average. 120 and above is consider smart. Genuis varies. Some say above 140 while others say 160.
