I don't know why you would have to give your ss#, you are paying cash. So it's not needed to do a credit check or anything.

Call a DMV in KY and ask.

I really don't think he needs it.

Since this is an Ebay sale assuming that this is either an individual, or a smaller used car dealer. I don't sold used cars for some years and even though was not in Kentucky, we did handle titles on cars that came from many different states and never heard of such a thing. I agree with the responder that suggested you back out of this deal and notify Ebay. Unless there are some different rules for a new car dealer on a brand new vehicle, or this guy was financing if for you with a loan sounds fishy to me. Besides if you were taking it to another state you would follow the rules of your home state to register it anyway. I'm going to keep an eye on this question myself as if anybody proves us wrong on this I'd like to know myself. So many folks on Ebay pulling scams or often simply being in error on the facts it would be hard to say they were attempting to scam you, though never know. Either way I'd hold off on giving the number unless you get "proof" of this from Kentucky authorities. Good luck either way.

No, you do not have to give it to him unless he is a dealer.Dealers have taxes separate from anyone else that they need to verify the purchaser to the secretary of state.

A private seller only needs your name and address to put on the bill of sale and have his own copy of this bill of sale.

You see, you pay your share of the tax on the vehicle purchase when you go to title it in your own name and get license plates for it.

He is probably just being paranoid or something but re affirm with him that you have researched it and what he is telling you is not correct.

If it will make him feel better just make a printer copy of your drivers license (as long as you s.s# is not on it) and give that to him for his purchase records.

If that isn't good enough for him then I would back out of the deal and let eBay know why you are doing so.

I would not have given that information either..since they probably would have your address and name off the bill of sale.

I would also protect myself on Ebay from bad comment by notifying them.

no you don't,,i have never had to ,and i live real close to the Kentucky line,,and i never have given it,,that's not something that they don't need to sell you a car,,i wouldn't give it to any one ,,enough people probably have it already,,but i don't blame you ,i wouldn't have given it either,,good luck hope this helps.,happy new years.
