Question for Hawaiian's?
We will be moving to Hawaii (Oahu) in the next year and would like to know the cheapest way of traveling between the islands with a family of 6. Since we're not vacationers on a time schedule, we don't need posh accommodations, just a cheap route. What's available?

Just a tip if you are going to be moving to the islands: residents of Hawaii are not automatically Hawaiians, they are called "Hawaii residents;" Hawaiians are an indigenous group similar to Native Americans. I had no idea before I moved here, but it can be a sensitive subject.
To answer your question: Superferry is expected to launch in mid-2007. That will supposedly allow people to travel with their cars to other islands for about $40 per person and a fee for your vehicle.
Until then, the interisland airlines (Hawaiian, Aloha and go!) have been having very cheap fares, as low as $29 each way.

The airfare is really low priced from one island to another. I have heard that it's like 30 dollars for a ticket. There really is no other way of getting around, because nobody really takes ships.
P.S. I'm not Hawaiian, I just live in Hawaii. Maybe you should direct this question differently.

You're in luck, inter island airfare is at an all time low. The airlines in Hawaii is currently in an airfare price war. Tickets are as low as $29.99 one way.
