Are people unaware that there is more to politics than "liberals" versus "conservatives"?
Rather than demonizing your fellow person, perhaps it would be wise to study up on the many various political philosophies.
Both "liberal" and "conservative" mean basically nothing. A "liberal" government can mean laissez faire economics, or it could mean socialist state controlled economics. The two are opposing concepts. "Liberal" democracies can have "conservative" policies, laws, and values. Conservative can mean traditionalist, or it can mean moderate, or it can mean reactionary, but today it can also mean someone advocating policy change towards libertarianism. Such "conservatives" have wildly opposing values. A communist could be socially conservative (historically, most are), and a libertarian can be politically conservative.
These words are all context-based, and are frequently misused. Today, they have almost no meaning.
The political extremes are anarchism and communism, libertarianism and fascism. Those are hard concepts. "Liberal" and "conservative" are not.
I notice that many of you posting comments and questions in this forum speak of the "right-wing" and the "left-wing" and you consider liberals and conservatives to mean one or the other, and also that they represent Republican and Democrat.
This is a gross oversimplification, and it is also factually inaccurate. There are "liberal" Republicans and "conservative" Democrats.
And left/right is also meaningless without context. Maybe it seems like it doesn't matter, but when you use soft words that rely exclusively on context to describe things in hard terms, you are engaging in semantic distortion, and contributing to the further ignorance of yourself and others.
If you don't understand political concepts, you shouldn't post your meaningless opinions about them.
Matthew:
This is no true. First, there are more than two parties. Second, there is division within the major parties. Third, there are moderates and independents. Finally, you just proved which of us is ignorant.

You are mostly correct. Meanings of words & party labels mean almost nothing anymore. We need to get more informed.about candidates & issues. And especially about campaign tactics. My general rule of thumb is, "Who ran the least dirty campaign?" Have they done or tried to what they said they would do in the past, & look up the record rather than believing the opposition's statements? Will what they propose work? Do they make sense? Most importantly, do they admit their mistakes? Is it fair for everyone, or at least as fair as it can be? And lately, whose pocket is being lined this time? And who is getting fleeced?
Now I have a question for you. Are you trying to convince people you are right? Because you are only turning off everyone who disagrees with you. Give your damn ego a rest, man. Just ask the question. Telling us we are wrong is only dividing us further, which is what you were griping about in the last question you asked. In other words, practice what you preach.

Politics has become so polarized that people vote for a party more than the candidate, which is a dangerous tendancy. Voters should take the time to understand their candidates, and vote for the one they believe will be the best leader and agrees with them on the issues - which go far beyond "R" or "D".

yes, people are unaware. the common person bases their political preference on the social and moral values & beliefs that were orthodoxy to them during their childhood and adolescence. because the most exposed-and easiest to understand-aspect of the government is social issues, people cling to the literal meanings of "liberal" and "conservative" because people feel good whenever their moral ideas are bundled up in a nice little package that they carry around with them wherever they go and randomly spit their label to innocent bystanders in the way of their "boasting"

however you are failing to realize that the terms are, in America, tethered to the parties. Go ahead and whine about semantics and the definitions of words all you like, but you're just being ignorant.

It is Bush and neocons who has destroyed the beautiful democracy that USA used to have. Now, whoever wins elections in USA, the thirst for Muslim blood will never go away.
