The check engine light came on @ 7500 miles so I know that this was for regular service.

Check the owners manual or call the dealer service department. The light comes on because it's time for an oil change. However, make sure it is nothing more serious. You could blow the engine if there are other problems. My Honda has a button right over the speedometer that I hold down for 15 seconds then the light go out. I don't own a Toyota but it's probably similar.

I don't have a Tundra, but most of the time the check engine lights go off when you open the hood of make sure the gas cap is on tightly.

If it's the maintance required light, the owner guide tells how to reset the light. The check engine light is usually not triggered by maintainence. You can borrow a code scanner from Autozone or since it's under warranty, take it to the dealer.

In the future, you can avoid this problem by purchasing a Ford F150!

DO NOT disconect the battery! yes, it will (usually) clear the code, but it will also clear the adaptive something or other memory. then it will take a while before it will shift at the right times, and may hesitate and the such. like someone else said, autozone should have a code reader so they can reset it for you. unfortunatly, a code reader is the only good way to reset the light on any car newer then 96.

If you unhook the battery, it will clear the computer in your truck but if you go to get it inspected, it will most likely fail because they hook the machine up to the vehicle, all your doing is clearing the computer, which it will most likely come back on after you drive it for a while

Turn on the key and hit the gas pedal three times real fast. Then turn the key off and back on, this should reset the check engine light unless toyota is different then pontiac.

never heard of check engine light coming on for oil change.....I own 2002 Toyota Tundra.

your brand new vehicle is still under warranty....take it in and ask why light is on. Taking it to AutoZone may not work.....they may not have codes yet.

Get your computer read with a code reader, the light came on for a reason. You can goto your local auto store and get the codes read, they will tell you what needs to be fixed.

Also disconnecting the battery for any limit of time will not remove the codes from the computer..... only a code reader can erase codes. Your light came on for a reason... so trying bs quick fixes wont help your eninge at all.

Unhook the battery for 5 minutes. It will clear the computer of all codes. This is a temp fix.
