Why is my Betta so lazy?

I have had Bean for about a year and a half. For the last few months, he has been hanging out on the bottom of his bowl, rarely comes up for food, and likes to just lay there on his side most of the time. He used to like swimming around. I've had quite a few bettas before and I've never had one that did this. I have him in a very large bowl. Do you think that this is just old age, sickness, or is the bowl too big? I change the water and feed him regularly.

    Hmmmm

it might be cause of his age or hes just sleepy, or the bowls to big try getting a size down in the bowl and keep the old on and see what he does

Most likely Bean is about 2 and a half years old-this is getting older for a betta. He's not quite geriatric, but he's a senior fishy. =)

There's no such thing as 'too big a bowl' for a betta. I have 10 gallon tanks for mine.

Male betas are usually not very active, even in large tank spaces. Have you tried live brine shrimp for food?

Most Betta fish are lazy mine is to its because its lived in a little cup for a long time them when you buy it and put it in a bigger fish tank it isnt very good at swiming. mine is more active now it took about a week or two for him to get used to its new living conditions

The temperature of the water might be too cold for him. Or age may be the problem, if he is older.
