it might be a "green anole", since anoles change colour according to the temp. to regulate their body temp. ; they turn brown when they're cold(to absorb sunlight) and green when they're warm(to reflect light).On top of that emotions can also affect colour, in a fight the winner turns green and the loser is a brownish colour. They are relatively easy to keep but they become stressed if handled too much.

Food: Anoles eat many kinds of bugs; you can catch flies and moths, spiders and cockroaches. You can also buy mealworms and smaller crickets to feed it at a pet store.

Water:

In nature, anoles drink dewdrops or raindrop from leaves of plants and they cannot be taught how to drink from a water dish. Use a mister to spray on a plant(put a small plant in the tank) since the natural wax will keep the water in drops for the lizard to lap up.

Some people call them chameleons, but they aren't. It's probably a green anole. They do change color when they are frightened or cold, but normally, they are green.

They are carnivorus, and want live food. Small crickets work well. You mentioned central arkansas. Searcy and Conway both used to have good pet stores, but it's been years since I lived there. If you can't get crickets in your area, www.ghann.com does them by mail order, whatever size you need, for a pretty reasonable price. Don't ever try to feed them something that is longer than their mouths are wide. It can really hurt them.

They do need UV lights and a basking light, and a really escape proof habitat for them. They can get into really small spaces, so they can get out of a lot of containers. ALso because of the need for a basking light you want to avoid plastic. It warps.

Oh, DO NOT use a heat rock. They will fry themselves. You'll wake up to a crispy critter stuck to a rock. not what you want. An under the tank heater or basking light is a much safer way to go...

I would suggest bringing the lizard to a petstore so they can identify it for you and ask their opinion on what to feed it. It could be a newt or salamader, I dont believe chameleon's live in arkansas they live in the more tropical regions (rain forest). And its color could mean that it is not getting enough heat and it could die. Anoles like other people mentioned need a heat lamp like most other lizards do or even a heated rock (sold in most pet stores) I would suggest getting baby crickets or meal worms from the pet store depending on the size of the lizard. I know the type of lizard that you are talking about! In Texas we call them Green fence lizards. They change colors from green to brown and sometimes have shades of blue. You can get crickets and mill worms from pet stores. You can also find bugs in your yard to feed him/her. Just make sure that there is no insecticide around and don't feed it sick or dying bugs. They may have been poisoned, and then you would be poisoning your lizard.

well i caught a lizard b4 that was a baby one. carful if u think its dead its playing possum. i will tell u what they eat. they eat baby crickets, flies, grasshoppers, sometimes worms. best to let em go. i dont think its a charmealion though try putting a big piece of wood in the container u keep it in c if it camoflages with the wood. if it does it is a charmealion kk

Usually insects. Crickets, moths, etc. etc. You can buy live crickets at pet stores. But I would not condone keeping it as a pet. It's a wild animal and needs to be free.
