Stem Cell research?
Will the Republicans ever have an open mind to Stem Cell Reseach? Why will they not allow research that has so much promise and may save lives instead of killing young adults in a senseless war?
I know the war and Stem Cell Research are separate, but the Right Wing seem to be OK with death - not life.

that's why we call them reactionaries: they react without looking at facts. embryonic stem cell research isn't connected to abortion and those blastocytes are typically going to be destroyed anyway. Just knee jerk...infuriating! Until it happens to them...like the Reagans.

There are two types of stem cell research, embryonic stem cell, and adult stem cell. Republicans have no problem with adult stem cell research. Adult stem cell research is the only stem cell research that has shown any promise. Embryonic stem cell research has so far only been able to produce cancer in rats. If you want to know if Republicans will have an open mind to embryonic stem cell research, the answer is most likely no. This is because most Republicans believe that embryos are human life and consider killing that life immoral. Adult stem cell research on the other hand does not require killing an embryo and shows the most promise.
Currently both adult and embryonic stem cell research are legal in the US. President Bush vetoed a bill that would have funded embryonic stem cell research with US tax dollars but the research is not illegal.

First, it is not all republicans.
But the ones in power, and they do what ever their church base wants them to do. If the church base finally sees the light and stops their hysterical and baseless opposition to the stem cell research you will find that the holier than tho holly rollers that are now in power will have a change of heart. But I wouldn't hold your breath til that day comes. The only hope for now is the new senate and congress and the 2008 election.
Don't think that all is lost in the immediate future. Most other free countries are not ruled by a religious nut and are carrying out research as we speak.

I'm a Republican and have a completely open mind about stem cell research. Why are you generalizing?
The War is a Totally separate issue!

The propaganda put out by ultra-right wing conservative groups makes it seem as though abortion is a necessary part of stem cell research, when it isn't. Stem cells can be harvested from umbilical cords, from miscarriages, and from fertilized embryos(test-tube babies) that would otherwise be thrown away. The radical Christians(who make a bad name for the rest of Christianity) seem to think that it's better for people to suffer slowly and die of horrible diseases instead of using technology to find cures. To hell with them, they can move to Iran if they don't like it.

It is not all Republicans who feel this way. Bush is the one who vetoed the stem cell bill, the Republican reps. wanted it because they knew it would be a factor in the '06 November elections, as most Amricans view it as a medical breakthrough.

Stem cell research is allowed. If one would look back, the bill to federally fund the research is what was voted down. As a republican, I am all for research, but not with my tax dollars. There are many private firms that can/could do the research.

You are un-informed about Stem Cell Research.
Republicans are all for private money being used.
They are against the Government taking taxpayer money and using it.
I've heard a lot of people squealing about wanting more Stem Cell Research, but not a single one of them have ever said they donated one penny.
It's all talk, and no walk.

The Republicans are against embryonic stem cell research not stem cell research.
Furthermore there has been no results in embryonic stem cell research.

Many are under the false impression that stem cell research has a connection to abortion, when it doesn't.
