why didn't my hair colour take?

There could be many reasons why you are getting the proper color taking. If you use alot of styling products and heavy shampoos and conditioners, you may want to consider getting yourself a good stripping shampoo. My personal favorite is the swimmer's shampoo. If it can get rid of chlorine out of your hair, you know it works. If you are using semi-permanent colors, they may not be strong enough on your hair, especially if you have stubborn hair to begin with (which it sounds like). A helpful hint when picking out your hair colors, is go with a permanent color...it's stronger with the ammonia and will penetrate much better than a semi-permanent that washes out eventually. Also, if you are looking beyond a brown color, the darker ones...make sure the box and the bottle in the box are the same numbers. Sometimes they get switched around. All this really depends on the length of your hair, how much it has been processed, how much buildup is in your hair, and how stubborn your hair is to begin with. I would need more information in order to help you rectify your problem.

Make sure your hair isn't wet at all when applying this product. Make sure you don't have any hairspray, gel, oil etc. in your hair at the time. If it is a temporary color that washes out in a week or so, I hate those. They never work well, and if you get caught in the rain, your hair bleeds the color.

If you want to go dark, then I suggest buying a permanent dark brown color or a soft black. Don't ever go any darker than a soft black, you will regret it. It looks SO fake! You can get Revlon for only $2.97 At Walmart and it's good stuff. It's all I use. It's formulated to condition your hair & not cause any damage. Warning, the "soft black" is really black. I suggest trying their "darkest brown" and see how you like that. After you die your hair, don't shampoo, just rinse it until the water runs clear. Then condition.

Well adding dark black shouldn't be brown.

A rinse should be dark however if you keep doing it and depending on what your using could cause your hair to resist the color. Be sure it's clean before you use a non ammonia color.

Black normally takes fast and almost never washes out.

Be sure your reading the product directions.

On most semi colors your hair is to be clean and damp and all you should have to do is rinse well.

I can't see your hair or feel it...I would go see a professional, someone who can sit and look at your hair and ask the necessary questions to determine whats going on. rule of thumb though-that crap in the boxes on the shelf is terrible and horribly unpredictable. Not to mention that they are formulated with super high volumes of peroxide that 99% of people don't need. A stylist has access to an entire line of color with many different tonal bases and can mix and match what you need to get your desired result. Buy the time you have spent money on all those hair dyes you could have spent the money and got it done the way you wanted.Most unisex salons do training nights which you could get at a cheaper rate or visit your local college which also has trainees looking for models. Why do you try these and you will look like a model for 2007

I'd recommend just leaving it up to a professional. It may cost more, but at least you won't end up looking like an easter egg...

Some times when your hair is naturaly greasy its harder for the color to take.
