What to do if you have too many books?

there are groups that send books to the troops in Iraq. I've lost the address but you could perhaps do a search on the Internet to see if there's such a group near you. Of course they don't want you to send an abundance of romance books or children's. But rather adventure, mystery and suspense and I think most want paperbacks.

Our local library is self sustaining and hold book sales twice a year. I donate my books to them, they sell the paperbacks at the sales, but many of the hardbacks I give them are put on the shelves.

Also there are groups that have free exchanges of books. One I belong to is very informal. I take bags of books and put them out on a table, for anyone to go through, of course if there are any left over, you need to take them home.

I've also heard of people who make it a habit of leaving a good book that they've read in some public place with a note inside the cover giving their overall opinion of the book, and that it should be read and passed along. These books are left in restaurants, buses, or bus stops, on commuter trains, even in shopping centers.

If you have a used book store in your area, you can bring them in and see what they'd be worth...usually in store credit. Or, you could do a "book swapping" party with friends who read. Having "too" many books, you could opt to do a 2 for one with yoru books. Garage sales, donations to schools, or to a small library are also some good ideas. You could donate them to goodwill, Salvation Army or even to churches who takes goods for disadvantaged people. Or, if you really have no other option, and this is really a stretch...you could leave them in boxes...during the day ....in places where the homeless usually gather....and oh!!!! How about donating them to boys and girls clubs? Or donate them to a vets shelter? Or even, to a hospital library?

In my town there's a used book shop where you can trade your books for some new (but used) ones. The owner takes money off the price depending on what condition the books are in and usually charges me 25 cents per book I buy when I bring mine in to trade.

You could possibly try to start a book swap club at your library or church (some place, anyway).

Donate them to the Goodwill. Their are always some people out there looking for good books. Also, you could have a yard sale and sell them for 2 bucks a book. If you have a lot and every one is sold then, you could have a big chunka change!!!

When the animal shelter is going to have a charity day and need raffle prizes or something- give the decent quality ones and the rubbish quality ones throw on the BBQ. Or sell them. Oreat CHEESE!!! Keep the good ones...

If it is not about the monetary value than donate them to libraries, schools, neighbors and friends. You will be surprised how many people love to read. You can also have a garage sale. Good luck.

Oh and try craigslist.org you can sell them in bulk...

give them to your local public library. I believe they have a book sale during summer and there are a lot of people buying those books. You will get rid of your books and also get a tax credit if you itemize your deductions.

Depending upon what they are, you may be able to donate them to a charity, a small town library, schools, a senior citizen center, etc...

Try selling at a yard sale.

If you really can't keep them, I would suggest donating to places like your public library, schools, and hospitals. Second hand stores like the Salvation Army might also be glad to take them.

Half.com is another alternative. However, you could also donate them to a local library because they often have book sales to raise money for expenses.
