BlueManticore
I'm a 31-year-old Youth Services Librarian. I am the definition of bibliophile, I love to read and collect books. My favorite color is blue, I love cats, and I'm a Scorpio. Religion-wise, I consider myself a Henotheistic Eclectic. FYI, I spell the single primary deity's name as "Godd" to represent my belief that S/He is "made" of all the GODs and GODDesses.
How do you pronounce "ngwena", the Shona term for crocodile?
Shona is an African language, spoken in countries like Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The term is also spelled "ngwenya."

3 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoCould a tourist see most of Salem, MA and do shopping there in one day?
I'd like to know if I could see most of the historical spots and do some shopping in Salem, Massachusetts in just one day. Basically, I'd like to take a plane to Boston and then take a taxi to Salem in the morning so I can be in Salem when the stores and sites open and then head back to Boston to fly home after the stores' closing time in the evening.
1 AnswerOther - United States1 decade agoDo predators care about taste?
For example, do wolves prefer the taste of rabbit to the taste of squirrel? Or do they just eat to stay healthy? Do certain animals taste different than others to the meat-eaters? Does one prey taste better than the other to a carnivore in the wild?

8 AnswersBeer, Wine & Spirits1 decade agoDo you know of any songs/music based on the story/poem/painting of "Isabella and the Pot of Basil"?
I'm looking for any music or songs written based on this story from "The Decameron (subtitle: Prencipe Galeotto) by Italian author Giovanni Boccaccio.
Summary: Lisabetta's brothers slay her lover: he appears to her in a dream, and shows her where he is buried: she privily disinters the head, and sets it in a pot of basil, whereon she daily weeps a great while. The pot being taken from her by her brothers, she dies not long after.
John Keats also wrote a poem titled "Isabella or, the Pot of Basil" and John William Waterhouse, Wilholman Hunt, and John White Alexander all also did paintings based on the same story.

4 AnswersHistory1 decade agoHow do I prune Delphinium Belladonna during the summer and prepare it for winter?
I found this but I am not sure what it means: After flowers are spent, cut stalks back to just above the first leaves for continued flower production. Remove old growth in fall after frost or before new growth begins in spring.
When it says "cut stalks", does it mean clip the whole stem just above the highest leaves or do I just remove the falling apart flowers, cutting them off from the stem?
Also, does "remove old growth" mean to cut the whole stem off above the soil or do I leave something above the soil? Or is it something else?

I know this item is not a required tool, not a necessity to be Wiccan and/or Pagan, but if you yourself do have one, how do you use it?
Also, what is the proper pronounciation of "athame"?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat beautiful church songs do you like that DON'T mention Jesus or the Holy Ghost?
And can you provide the lyrics, too?
Lots of Christian music is quite lovely, but I am looking specifically for songs sung in church that non-Christian monotheists like Jews and Muslims or polytheists like Pagans can enjoy without feeling preached to. Christian songs that refer to God in ways where "God" could be any deity anyone worships. Music we can all share.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWere you once Jewish or did you convert to be Jewish? If so, what religion did you change to or from and why?
I hear a lot about people who have converted to or from Christianity, but not so much about those who have converted to or from Judaism.
I myself have changed from being Jewish to being Eclectic mostly based on my Jewish upbringing but also quite a bit on what I like about Paganism and Hinduism. I changed because I found my beliefs to really be more henotheistic than monotheistic. I also don't care so much for how Judaism seems to focus so much on the masculine side of Godd and so little on the feminine side. I've also changed in that the holidays and the needing of a building, a synagogue, to pray don't mean as much to me anymore as the respecting and honoring of nature does. I also don't care much for being restricted to a specific dogma, I'd rather choose for myself what is right for me.
How about you? Why did you convert to or from Judaism and what religion did you convert to or from?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat is the name of a children's tv show about a mannequin that came to life at night when his hat was put on?
This was a live-action children's show. The mannequin lived in an apartment store that had an old, muppet night watchman with a gray mustache and a female puppet trouble-making mouse that lived in the wall as well as a human saleslady and he would come to life only when his hat was on and the magic words were said and would turn back into a mannequin if he lost his hat. Anyone remember what show this was?
1 AnswerComedy1 decade agoSpiritually speaking, what are animals (other than humans) to you?
Do you think of them as family, as friends, as servants, as slaves, or as something else?
Do you spiritually relate to different animals in different ways? For example, do you see a cat as family while a cow is seen as a servant?
