The "Unsinkable Molly Brown" is the most well known of the Titanic survivors. It is reported that she was persistent about helping passengers who were struggling in the cold waters, despite objections from a crew member in her lifeboat. She rallied the other women in her boat and stood up to the objections faced by those who were afraid that helping those in the waters would capsize and sink their own lifeboat. Molly Brown was an interesting person aside from the Titanic. She was an American "new money" who was reputed for being outspoken.

Molly Brown is the most famous today, thanks to the publicity she gained over the years. But in the immediate time after the sinking, there were several other contenders for this distinction.

Bruce "Brute" Ismay. The shipline owner who did not go down with the ship while many women and children did. Though he boarded a lifeboat only after there was no one else around to do so, his life would be ruined by the inferred cowardice of this act. In America in particular he would serve as the focus of anger over the loss of life.

Madeline Astor. The "child bride" of John Jacob Astor had been the focus of the social circles, who had shunned her and her husband because of his scandalous divorce.

Harold Bride. One of the heroes of the Titanic. As the junior wireless operator, he was the only survivor who could provide details on the wireless traffic that night. His testimony mesmerized the audience at the American hearings.

Sir Cosmo Duff Gordon and his wife Lucy, known as "Lucille" in the fashion designer industry. They were two of 12 survivors in Lifeboat one, a boat designed to hold many times that number. The fact that the boat did not return to look for survivors, and the revelation that Sir Cosmo had paid the the 7 crewmen in his boat 5 pounds each would bring about accusations of him "buying" his crew.

Charles Lightoller. the second officer and senior surviving crew member, Lightoller would face hours of testifying in front of both the American and English Inquiries, walking the line of honesty and protecting the company's interests. He would take part in the evacuation of Dunkirk during world war two, using his own boat to save over 100 British troops from capture or death.

Edmund and Michal Nevatrl. Two young boys, their father, who had kidnapped them and sailed on the Titanic under an assumed name, died in the sinking. It would be weeks before their identies would be clarified, and they eventually reunited with their mother.

The Countess of Rothes. Escaping in boat 6, she would be remembered for manning the tiller of the lifeboat.

And of course, the list of distinguished and famous names (during that era anyways) is even longer.

The disaster replaced into the marvelous occasion of sheer undesirable success ! the possibilities that 2 microscopic specks - a deliver and an iceberg - could arrive at precisely a similar spot interior the vastness of the North Atlantic at precisely a similar time have been astronomically no longer likely. The slightest version interior the quicker strikes of the two, and not something could have got here approximately. And not one of the outcomes.

Depends on your definition of "famous"

I guess I'd go with Molly Brown.

    The Unsinkable Molly Brown

    Mrs. James Joseph Brown

I guess the Titanic disaster is one of those strange events in history where those that died are more famous than those who lived.
