what is a reasonable amount of time to repair a damaged car?

accident-12/12/06

damage- $5500- metal frame, bumper, radiator

additional damage found later- +$1388

my geico insurance rep said it would probably be finished 1/2/07.

apparently a part was refused and another had to be ordered.

now they say maybe 1/12/07.

i didn't take the rental car option, can't afford one, and it's a b*&%# to get to work and school with no car for a whole month. do i have a valid complaint or is this just the way it is?

It all depends on how much damage is found when the repair work starts. the date is only a guess. Call the body shop and go their and complain. the more you push them the faster you get your car back.

3 weeks should be more than enough time for that kind of damage. I'd complain to your insurance rep and get them to press the body shop. They might pay for a rental till the car is done.

    Good luck.

Pretty much just the way it is. Unfortunately insurance reps do not see all the damage. When the body shopman starts to repair the vehicle, most of the time they find more damage. Its only one more week, hang in there.

Well insuance companies can be a**holes and liars! Doing frame work takes a lot of patiece and time because you have to take the motor and transmision out take most of the body off and interior out and then heat the frame to mealting point then staighten it! after that put the parts back on and paint it! Its especally harder if it has a sub-frame!

You are at their mercy. Each case will be handled differently.

I would bet from now on you have car rental on your policy. It is not that expensive.

By the way you can alwasys blame your Insurance man. It in no way is your fault. It could not be your bad judgement.

That date was just a guess. With that kind of damage you can't expect to know exactly what it will take to fix it until you get started.

Stuff happens. Unless you see your vehicle sitting on the lot, with nothing happening to it, I don't see that you have a valid complaint.

it could take that long if parts get misordered or are on backorde(hard to get parts that the manufacturer come up short on in the supply end).
