My betta fish had a large tumor in throat area. Its exploded... need help,,, anything i can do?

Do three things:

1. Get medicine drops from petco/petsmart/any fish store/any pet store. If you can't find one for tumors or infections, get Malefix. It comes in a blueish-purple bottle and is a general antibiotic cure all for fish.

2. Add aquarium salt to the water. Even though bettas are freshwater fish, salt helps sick fish, especially tropical fish like bettas. Add 1 tablespoon of aquarium salt per 5 gallons of water. Not table salt either.

3. Give him warm water. Like salt, it helps sick tropical fish. Just add luke warm tap water around 85 degrees (Conditioned/dechlorinated as always)

Always remember these things to keep your betta healthy:

- Always dechlorinate/condition the water you add to your tank. Don't EVER add straight tap water because it contains chlorine, chloromine, ammonia, and other metals that are very harmful to your fish. Get water conditioner drops at walmart/petco/petsmart.

- Don't put your betta in a tiny tank (under 2 gallons). Bettas can SURVIVE in tiny tanks but they live way longer and happier in a larger tank. Filters are necessary and extremely useful if you don't like doing such frequent water changes. Heaters are good too if you don't live in a hot climate.

Betta fish don't give live birth, for those above. He probably has a parasite. You should feed him small meals 2-3 times per day. It is very hard to treat diseases in Bettas because they are often in a small tank.

Sorry, but there isn't much medical treatment you can do for a fish. You can try going to the pet store and buying some of those drops to put in the tank for various diseases - find one for infections. I don't know that anything is going to cure him though. Honestly the best thing to do would be to put your fish out of it's misery. I know this sounds gross but you can put him in a cup of water and put it in the freezer. He will just go to sleep as his body temperature gets lower and it won't be painful. It's a lot more humane than flushing him.

You had nothing to do with this occurrence. Let him live out his lifespan. You are a great owner. Genetic variations and defects occur in nature all the time. Blockage cannot occur with over feeding. He is lucky to have you and when he dies know that better with you than with someone who would have flushed him right away.

Maybe you could call up a local pet store or aquarium or a vet and ask him/her. I'm not sure if killing him right away is the best decision.

Wow, I have never heard quite of that. Your poor fishy. My suggestion is to put fishy to sleep. It sounds pretty painful.

take him to a vet.... or some professional fish person.... they might know how to cure it..... try...i don't think that you overfed him..... i feed my fishes more and they don't look too fat....

if you want to make your fish exercises... you can stir his water around.... do but not too hard.. or your fish would get dizzy. it would make the muscles get stronger and make your fish healthier. try. good luck with your fish...
