Can I get some help with my 1997 Pont. TransAm WS6?
Ok, I was programing certain features of the VATS(VehicleAntiTheftSystem), like the way it arms/disarms, and the way it notifies you that the alarm is set, these features are able to be changed, so i did so, following all instructions as per the owners manual. One of the ones I altered, was the locking behavior, I tested my change, it worked fine, time after time, then I was sitting in the car, door open, operating the alarm. Now I tried to start it, the alarm goes off, so I kind of paniced and turned the off imediately, I got it to shut off(alarm). Now I have a no-start condition and the security light flashes on and off steadily. I was having some trouble earlier with the key, the resistor pellet and/or contacts in the lock cylinder, then it would turn on the security light and I would have to wait the 3 min. and then it would start. But this is bad, I can't crank it. And finally, the question, is there a way to disarm this thing or bypass it or reset it? Preferably not the dealer.

If you want to bypass the VATS altogether you can check this out:

Unfortunately this is a weakness in their security design.
GM won't tell you, but if you turn the car on, (of course it won't start), and watch the blinking red security light for 10 minutes, it will eventually stop flashing and the red light will turn off.
Now turn the key, and your car will start!
Sort of annoying, but its free...
