The name of a building?
How can I find out what my In-Law's house used to be called before the previous owners re-named it when they moved in? It is a listed building, and was apparently used by Henry VIII for his horses and grooms etc when he was staying In Hunsdon House in Hertfordshire.
Any help would be appreciated.

Try the Post Office they keep a list a house names so that new post men/women can find the house. You might also try the Land Registry as they have records going back many years and names can be registered with them.

It's bad luck to re-name a house.
Of course it may never have HAD a name. Not every old building has a name.
Best bet is probably to speak to some of the older people who have lived in the area all their lives. They can be surprisingly helpful.

I would go to the City, village records department and ask them for any information. If they can't help, we have Counties within the States that contain a certain number of cities, and those counties contain historical records of any property changes. (if I understood the context of your question correctly, you are in England?) See if there is any information they might have. If not, go to a library, there should be geneology rooms for that sort of thing.

Probably the deeds of the house will show it or you could try the local land registry office.
