Question about an old children's book ?

Does anyone remember the older children's book that had characters that were also children named Mary and Johnny .. and it would have sentances like .." See Mary run , run mary run . " Or " See Johnny play , play Johnny play " .

I really need to know the title of these book's , or even the author .

There were quite a few series of books that had those exact phrases, with different names. The ones I remember were "See Ann run. Look David, see Ann run." I believe these books were done by publishing companies as readers for schools, so you may not be able to find an exact title. I cannot remember any exact titles of the very early ones, but I do remember a third grade one that was called something like "Timber Town". Ginn Publishing Company probably did some of them so if you can find a contact there some of the information may be archived. I believe Ginn in Canada was sold to Simon and Schuster Publishing Company, which may in turn now be part of another company. Occasionally I have seen one of those old readers in second hand book stores or antiques shops, but they are getting harder and harder to find. If you know any librarians at a primary or elementary schools, especially if they have been there a while, ask them. They may be able to point you in the right direction. Best of luck with your search.

  • The titles of the books you seek are "Jane and Dick" books. Go into any Borders or Walden's book stores and if you tell the sales associate you are looking for Dick and Jane books they will know what you are speaking of.

After doing a little research online, I found a site that specializes in these 1930's classics. Hope this helps!!

They were called the Dick and Jane Readers. There was a cat named Puff. I don't recall the dog's name (probably Spot).

It was The Dick And Jane Books.

Run, Dick run! See Dick Run. Run, Jane Run! See Jane Run. See Dick and Jane Run. Run, Spot Run.
