what is envolved in swiching a 300 six cyclinder to a 302 v8 in a 1996 Ford F-150?

They take the same bellhousing, so it should slip right in :)

I helped replace a 250? straight six with a 302 on a 74 Maverick years ago .The tranny I believe was a c-6 or a c-4? Pilot shaft and torque converter fit up fine . However I had to exchange the bell housing which was only 4 bolts off the tranny ,however removing the torque converter was a pain. It took 2 guys around 10 hours . Make certain that the pilot shaft is correct to what you need first .

i think the transmission will bolt up, but thats about it. the computer system is not gonna match, motor mounts. just all kinds of little gadgets will make this a hard switch. Just stick with the 300 / 6 or if you have to get a v8, just find one. a truck this old isn't worth a lot of time and money trying to make the change. good luck!

Yep , like edselman said ,the bellhousings are the same. You will probably need the motor mount supports ( the bent frame that bolts to the frame and holds the mount) These frames are different shapes for different motors . Everything else is the simple stuff once you have the motor sitting in the frame.

A lot, first of all if I recall the transmissions are different so thats first. Then you will need to change computer, sensors, recalibrate gauges, maybe new driveshaft, and of coarse you will need a full 302 engine, with distributor, intake, throttle body everything.....your talking lots and lots of hours and quite a bit of expense

lifting the old engine out, putting the new one in, attaching the correct parts, getting a new slip for trans, all sorts of crap.

Radiator, brackets, computer and wire harness,exhaust,etc.

do a search on-line for the company "advance adapters " . they make a kit just for that purpose
