"London" came from the Roman name "Londinium". That in turn probably came from pre-Celtic Old European — Plowonida — from two roots, "plew" and "nejd", meaning something like "the flowing river" or "the wide flowing river".

The name 'London' is the Ango-Saxon version of the original Roman name - Londinium.
Although there was a small Briton community living on the site of modern London, it was the Romans who founded the city soon after they invaded Britain in 42 AD, so the name has always been 'Londinium/London'.
