snack ideas for bipolar seven-year-old?
Not only is he a growing boy he is also on a med that stimulates his appitite! What are some good snacks that might keep my son full for longer than 10 minutes? He has been tested for food allergies and has none. Also he gets very limited sugar and no caffine? Please help his appitite is breaking me!
yes I did my research on the diagnosis. You try having your child delusional and having hallucinations, constantly scared. He is a completely different child since starting the medications. The choice to medicate was not taken lightly. He was not a difficult child he was (as stated before) delusional and hallucinating, unable to concentrate. Do your research next time before getting on your soap box! Early Onset Bipolar disorder is a fairly common one. The fact that it differs so much from the adult version of bipolar is why it was overlooked for so long. I made the right choice for my child, who went from failing school to honor roll grades and is no longer scared of the robots and bugs. He was tested for all types of physical problems first. Thanks to all who are actually answering my question.

Things like plain crackers, unenriched cereals, white pasta, are the same as sugar....they are simple carbohydrates and will only stimulate his appetite. So try to stay away from those. You can let him make little shish-kabobs using grapes, cheese cubes, lean meat cubes, small pieces of veggies. Fat reduced peanut butter on celery sticks or on bananas is healthful. Apple slices dipped in the fat-free caramel dip, veggies dipped in light dip. You can also make him a peanut butter sandwich on whole grain bread with a glass of milk. Include a protein and fat in the snack, as it will digest more slowly and help keep his blood sugar at an even level. Also don't forget enough fluids, as some people mistake thirst for hunger.

Barberry is correct and if I knew how to vote I would pick her answer.(I keep clicking the flag and it says something about a level two.) My daughter has a hyper active problem and she can get soo weird that the "doctor" can't test her. She has a little of adhd a little of other learning disabilities they told me that I can't pronounce. So, I decided to change her diet. Don't let him have red juices either and fruit roll-ups are a no no. There is a cereal called Peanut butter Bumpers. Wow! Just changing that made a huge difference! The whole Bumper line is real tasty ,just need to get used to it first. There is also Kashi Cinnamon Harvest. YES, stay away from bread. If you need a substitute use pita bread with ingredients that are not enriched or bleached. Be a lable reader. Just because it says it is healthy doesn't mean it is . hope this helps PRAYER is the most powerful thing we can do for our children and GOD looks for opprotunities to bless us. If only we ask him.And will not GOD bring about justice for HIS chosen ones, who cry out to HIM day and night? Will HE keep putting them off? luke 18:7 niv

Bipolar in a seven your old? Bipolar is in most cases not dignosed untill atleast the teen years. It very rarley affects children. Are you sure the dignosis is right? What has this world come to? I feel that children are medicated and dignosed why to easily these days. Have a kid thats problematic oh heres a pill for that. I truly hope that you know what you are doing! Do you research the medications that your child is on? Have you researched Bipolar? I cant even belive a doctor would dignose a child that young. I spent from the time i was 13 till i was 18 beliving that i was bipolar. Till i got away from my parents got my own doctors and had 3 sepate doc tell me that i am not bipolar at all. Most of my mood swings depression and acting out came from growing up in a horrible situation and never be councled or taught to manage my emotions. Which was made worse by constent changes in meds that i didnt even need. Some that even caused such sever deppresion that i was sucidal. I have spent to years med free and away from some crazy parents and have never been doing better. THe rest of my family and friends agree. I just really hope that you look in to what you are doing.
I am truly sorry if my anwser offended you. That was not the intent. I just feel that too many parents these days slap labels and drugs on kids way to easy. I know that for some children it is truly need and in your case that sounds right. I am just affraid that to many parents take it to lightly. The medications they prescribe are very serious and can have very serious side effects i still have ongoing issues with my kidneys due to the depocote they had me on. I am very happy to see that you take it so seriously.

Anything with a lot of protein, which makes you feel full faster and longer. Maybe peanut butter on whole wheat crackers with raisins or 3/4 cup of mixed nuts. If he likes healthy food, maybe carrot sticks with hummus.

usually things like spaghettios, are fun, cheap, and fill kids up. They come in different characters, and types. And are fast to heat up... try other things like animal crackers... or some baby carrots and veggi dip... kids seem to like those. Poptarts may fill them up too... but there a bit sugary... your best bet would be to look in the frozen food section for things like pizza rolls, bagel bites etc.

Celery sticks with sugar-free peanut butter. (crunchy is better at sticking with them than creamy.
Apple slices with cheese cubes. (My boy loves these!)
Try to stay away from crackers and other processed starch, as they don't have a lot of staying power. They fill you up quick and then your hungry again in a few minutes.
