After reviewing scientific studies, FDA determined in 1981 that aspartame was safe for use in foods. In 1987, the General Accounting Office investigated the process surrounding FDA's approval of aspartame and confirmed the agency had acted properly. However, FDA has continued to review complaints alleging adverse reactions to products containing aspartame. To date, FDA has not determined any consistent pattern of symptoms that can be attributed to the use of aspartame, nor is the agency aware of any recent studies that clearly show safety problems.

Carefully controlled clinical studies show that aspartame is not an allergen. However, certain people with the genetic disease phenylketonuria (PKU), and pregnant women with hyperphenylalanine (high levels of phenylalanine in blood) have a problem with aspartame because they do not effectively metabolize the amino acid phenylalanine, one of aspartame's components. High levels of this amino acid in body fluids can cause brain damage. Therefore, FDA has ruled that all products containing aspartame must include a warning to phenylketonurics that the sweetener contains phenylalanine.

Aspartame is terribly toxic. It was banned by the FDA until politics came into play to get it passed. You can do a google search to see everything about Aspartame.

Try a few of these on Google:

    1) Aspartame+toxic

    2) Aspartame+Rumsfeld

It's considered a neurotoxin. Many people feel it can be a contributor of MS (multiple sclerosis) among many other things.

Some sweeteners to consider which are thought to be toxic at this point are xylitol and stevia. The jury is still out on stevia though.

Aspartame is just another name for nutri-sweet. It is a sugar substitute. There is nothing wrong with Diet Soda. People have said that because it contains aspartame it will cause cancer. This is false. There is no scientific data that suggests aspratame causes cancer. The web site for the FDA states that it has no relation to cancer. Drinking regular soda has more harm due to the outrageous amounts of sugar in them.

Yes politics: FDA banned aspartame, Monsanto's new artificial sweetener. However, our dear friend Donald Rumsfeld was heavily invested in Monsanto. So asked his newly elected friend Ronald Reagan to do something. Reagan did. He fired the director of the FDA had them reverse the ban and made the FDA the poodle of the drug companies.

Aspartame is made from wood alcohol and can turn into formaldehyde at temperatures below 90o Fahrenheit. Your body temperature is 98o or so. People who take too much aspartame may find they are mimicking the symptoms of MS which is epidemic in the US. It also disrupts your metabolism often causing weight gain that is hard to reverse.

Aspartame is not a good thing. When I used to drink beverages with aspartame regularly, I developed constant pains in my chest and limbs. My energy started depleting, and I was experiencing all around bad health.

Immediately after I cut aspartame out of my life, my body went back to normal. I knew it was from the aspartame because I was iffy about drinking it to begin with. I would stay away.

I have known far too many people who experienced similar problems when using that sweetener.

aspartame is fake sugar, little more, it is a way to trick your tongue into thinking that you are drinking something sweet, without giving you calories

it also leaves a horrible aftertaste

as for safe, i dont know, there are some studies which say it is not, personally i prefer good old fashioned sugar, because until the eggheads make up their minds, we know that sugar is relatively safe, and we know that it doesnt have an aftertaste

i cant get in on diets myself, food is my vice, so instead i started using a rowing machine, im getting decent results so far, i gained 10 lbs but lost inches around my waist, i dont know how many but my pants are much looser, i dont care about my actual weight as long as i am not fat

aspartame is an artifical sweetener that is harmless. The only way to have any negative effect would be to injest pounds of it, and nearly anything is dangerous in that amount anyways. Diet drinks are safe. Good luck wtih your diet

Aspartamine is an artifical sweetner for diet foods and drinks.

It does have some side effects for some people which include pain and loss of flexibility of joints, mental problems, etc.

Do a search on google for side effects to be totally aware.
